Hi all, I have just read a thread regarding the announcement of a SD40T-2 Tunnel Motor by Kato. The announcement was a great Kitbash. The pics of the model look great. Pity it is only a hoax, got me. Kato Tunnel Motor [ 31 August 2001: Message edited by: MRL Mick ]</p>
If you read some of the replies, you'll find he's just pulling your chain and it's a conversion of a Kato SD40-2. I must say he did an excellent job on the kitbash though.
Yep, it's a VERY nice kitbash at that, too! I have a few photos myself of the unit, taken at the same time as Gavin Miller's shots. Admittedly, it's about 2 scale feet short, but captures the look very convincingly. The rear grills are from a Eduard 1/35th scale Ho-ni(sp?) WW2 Japanese tank etched brass detail kit. The top grills are from Kato's -9, ordered as a spare part. I'll be putting them online at some time, along with quite a few others of layouts and models. The convention was the best yet and very informative. The quality of the Western Australian models on show are to be appreciated. Gary.
I have wanted to do one of those for a while, but as a first loco kitbash,I hesitate to cut into a Kato shell!
