No, it was long before I was on this board, and not long after they first came out, IIRC. I've searched and not found any references online... I was out of the hobby for several years afterwards. I don't think it was a common problem (as is evident by searching today.)
Yeah........but the ones in the Kato FPs are Digitrax, and I've never had the issue with any other Digitrax decoders, let alone 3, so it may be back that Kato did "special" decoders (like Bachmann does with theirs) or it could be a luck thing. But it still says Kato on the box, so if it doesn't work, it's a Kato issue. And the other issues weren't decoder related, and 3 out of 11 is still not a good showing. Unfortunately no manufacturer has a 100% success rate for me........except if you want to exclude decoder issues, and then BLI would be 100% for me with 0 out of 12 having issues. Atlas has had the most issues, but I also have more Atlas than any other brand (3 out of 25). Bottom line is if you are a model railroader, you are going to get a bad one from time to time.
I agree. It's the name on the box that rightly gets the blame when something goes wrong with anything inside the box, as well as the credit when all goes well.
