    Charlie-

After reading the article, I am now curious. If you find a follow up story, please post it. 6 mph should be well below the harmonic rocking range. So I'd like to know if this is actually found to be the reason.

    Charlie,
being a former Newtonite, you know that the afffected track was the old Mopac track, north of the Santa Fe crossing. Just 4 blocks from my house. That track has not been maintained for some time, so I'm sure that it was probably track related. There has been talk that the UP will close the track north of the industrial park in southeast Newton. BNSF wants to purchase the property and remove the crossing to speed up traffic in that area. They would have to keep a switch there to allow switching of the Cargill mill ( Ross mill). The track to the north belongs to K&O (former CKR) and needs much attention.

I know the area well Dean. I used to deliver newspapers right in that neighborhood as a youth. (Couple of years ago [IMG] )
