I have heard that Kadee and Micro Trains Lines will be rejoining back together. Any truth to this? When? MTL home page says more information on 1 July 2021 HMMMMMMM
See, we older guys who have kept calling them "Kadee's" instead of "MT's" are paranoi...er...paranorm...er...clairvoyant. Doug
Thank goodness for Kadee giving us an alternative coupler that actually worked. Finally we were able to replace all our Mantua hook-n-loops, Devore knuckles that kinda worked, Varney whatever they were, and Bowser/Penn Line, don't remember what they used. I'm not an "Older Guy". My tee-shirt says, "I'm Not Aging, I'm Fermenting".
Unsure on this one...…… When a predominantly N & Z company gets into HO, it tends not to favor the N scalers
The founders of Kadee were brothers who had a falling out. One left Kadee to form Micro-Trains. Dunno what's happening today.
I'm getting into the older guy category. Clairvoyancy is a tad intermittent, though. Just plain voyancy already needs reading glasses... As for fermenting, let me age a few days and I'll smell like it....
A sincere thank you for your post! I still call them Kadee cars and people at train shows think I'm a misinformed newbie. When I explain the history, they look dubious and puzzled. Yes, the old boxes show "Kadee Micro-Trains", but nobody I knew called them Micro-Trains back in the day -- they were Kadee Cars.
Same for us back in the '90s when I was into N. Then moved in '07 and switched to HO. Now I'm headed back to N.
Both brothers have passed on and I imagine the descendants have decided to remerge the scales. Makes sense. Doug
My old friend Emmett DeVaney, who was always an enthusiastic and instrumental member of the Austin Model Railroad Club, passed on a few years ago and, in the mid seventies when he was 56 years old and I was 22, he related how his dexterity deterioration had made installing Kadee couplers on his N scale cars much more difficult than the HO couplers were some years before. So, l would install them for him which, at my age at the time, was a snap. And now, I am almost thirteen years beyond his age at that time. Doug
Based on the shadowed item in the photo they posted, it appears to be a Hummer, so looks like MTL is just getting into the HO vehicle market. A couple of MTL employees have posted on other forums that this is not a merger or project that is combining MTL and Kadee again. I think you are just reading too much into a vague teaser.
In my younger days, I felt that Kadee Microtrains were a luxury and stuck to mainly supplementing my Lone Star with Atlas, Con Cor and Arnold Rapido. They looked nice but I had to keep my expenses down. It wasn't until years later and after a stint helping my dad with his HO empire that I got back into N and started obtaining MT rolling stock.
I have some very early Kadee cars, including those numbered in the original numbering system (the 21110 Missouri Pacific car, for instance) but, since they were more expensive, I rarely ever had them on the track so they are still like new in their boxes. Like Russell, I ran Atlas, Con-Cor, and various other brands made by RoCo and Bachmanns which were nice cars early on. Doug
