Can anyone tell me about JnJ shells? How are they assembled (shell, sill frame, cab, etc) and if they are good quality? Can they compare to Atlas and Kato? Thanks for your help

Dave, I only have one JnJ shell thus far, and am very happy with it. I was dubious about the quality, but when I received it I was pleasantly surprised.

It is a F45, which I fitted to a Kato SD45 chassis. The fans are particularly well represented. I would not hesitate to buy another shell, if they do one I need.

I have two JnJ shells. One is a CF7 and the other is a SD45B. Both shells look great. [IMG] I didn't have to do much clean up on them at all to get them ready to paint. Just waiting on some decent weather so I can paint them. [IMG]

    Dave:

In answer to your questions: JnJ shells are one piece resin castings. This has, to me, an advantage in that the resin sands or files dead quick compared to styrene. I've got two of their GP 15-1's, and the only bad thing I can say is that getting a decent chassis to go under these beauts is a PAIN. The ones that JnJ used to sell were dogs, noisy and with no pulling power. Somehow, spending around $80 apiece on Atlas GP-9's just for the chassis sounds like a bad idea, so I've ended up cutting down a LL GP 38. With a LOT of fiddling, this has worked well. Finally, yes I probably will end up buying more of their stuff.

Thanks a lot you guys! Alan-you mentioned putting an F45 shell on a Kato SD45 chassis? How did that work out? Is the wheelbase and length alright on each end, or is there a small amount of overhang? I have an SD45 chassis lying around, so maybe I've found something to put on it! Thanks again for your answers [IMG]

The wheel bases should be the same becasue the F45 is just a cowl version of the SD45. They sit on the same frame and are powered by a 645 20-cylinder prime mover.
