Hard to believe that we are already halfway through May. When it's winter, I wish it would hurry but late spring and summer? It can slow down. Way down. Let us see how we did this holiday weekend. Holiday? Yeah, your author forgot about a certain holiday. Saturday: was as planned. I got up early and started pricing all the new and used items that will be going on the for sale table as well as some auction items. I've been really cleaning out the shop because of the impending move and now since I model just two roads, a serious down sizing has been progressing slowly over the last few months. I also worked on graphics for the show and got a few small odds and ends done on the modules. By mid day, I was watching Jared graduate High School, then a few hours later playing soccer. We followed that up with dinner at a nearby restaurant. My buddy Brian came down to pick up his O scale and some planning for Galesburg before calling it a day. Sunday AKA: MOTHERS DAY! yes, like I said above, totally forgot that one. I get so busy with everything that is going on in the next few weeks and months that this happens. For Moms Day, we went back to Decatur for soccer, Jared scored a goal for his Momma, I took her out for breakfast and the kids treated her to flowers and cards. Of course I called my Mom and later we had a cook out at my step daughters for her boyfriends mom and family and for Angela. It was nice to finally enjoy the nice weather and relax. All in all, a nice weekend before the real busy stuff happens. So how about you? What did you get accomplished? Anything? I think most of us get a free pass this weekend, but if you did get something done, do tell us. We're going to do it again, starting Friday the 19th. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and as always... High Greens!
Didn't get EVERYTHING done I wanted, but I got the "important" stuff done. Managed to temporarily set the bridge I'm working to facilitate cutting and placement of the plywood base beyond it and behind the city and screen wall. Wanted to get the track "pinned" down on the bridge, but that will have to happen during the week as I get time before/after work. Here's a shot of the CVM ParkerTruss bridge "in progress" and temporarily set.
Well, I finally did it.... made incredible progress on Hwy 101. The highway itself is done. Next is adding the signage. I also did some touch up painting on my back drop. That's a huge relief to get that done. So, I had a very productive weekend. Hope ya'll had a great Mother's day weekend, Wolf
Actually got some ballasting in - it was a busy weekend but I got most of the static tracks in the yard done, or at least started. I still haven't really completely got the design of the road/bridge at the end of the yard figured out, so the yard tracks are just sitting waiting. Maybe this week .. Best to all!
I did a visual inspection of my new Bachmann NW-2 that I picked up on sale from Trainworld. The whole point was to see if I could a shell swap with an old Con Cor "SW1500" that I custom pained years ago for ICG. The way I see it if the swap works I upgraded to DCC without having to butcher the Concor frame and mechanism - and got a better motor to boot. Pictures if this ever happens.
Stripes! IMGP12987_GP38-2W_Striped by Mike VE2TRV posted May 14, 2017 at 7:22 PM The cab still isn't glued on. I want to finish everything else before I do that. I had to secure the bell - again - before installing the horn. The application of the zebra stripes went rather well. It's a question of plenty of Micro Sol and even more patience. Several applications of Micro Sol with settling times of an hour or two between applications were needed to get this nice, flat, detail-hugging result. It even conformed very nicely to the blower bulge.
No railroading done, but spent a wonderful Saturday watching students fly rockets. A team from Festus, Missouri took first place and will be going to the Paris Air Show to compete against the champions from the UK, France, and Japan.
Today, I made the base of the dock to extend four scale feet away from all walls, except for the office front wall. It is made out of 0.040″ styrene, and will have some siding laminated to it. I also purchased some Evergreen 2.5mm corners for the corner trim, and I really like how it came out. My local non-railroad hobby shop had Evergreen N Scale stairs and handrails….. I made a bad cut on the bottom of the office, good thing that I still have to add trim!
I did. Cut this from 60"x30" birch sheets from Ganahl Lumber. For the big holes I used a forstner bit.
Got a fair bit of modeling done, but no images. What do you folks use for imaging software? Like. How many of you use cameras? How many of you use your smart phones? And what settings should we use to get the quality images you all have shown us? Seems I have less of a need for a dedicated device anymore, but I still, seem to fall further behind on the same devises and capabilities
I have a beautiful (although "older" in this tech savvy world) Canon Rebel T3i, 18mp with a full set of lenses - takes some of the nicest, fastest (almost 4 frames per second) pictures I've ever seen. But. Honestly, since I always have it with me, my iPhone 6 takes almost all my pictures. And, it has an interesting feature for modeling - if you turn the camera basically sideways, the lens is down within a quarter inch or so of the surface and gives some very nice "eye level" views of your trains - a track's eye view. Then you use software to flip the upside down picture back rightway up again and voila, a picture taken by a six foot tall person standing trackside. .
