Well we have made it through another weekend, how did you do?

Saturday: was busy, but naturally I did not get everything done that I wanted to. Both the BNSF Heritage units were finished up and placed in their jewel cases and are ready for the return trip home. I was able to get clear coat on two of Brian's covered hoppers and decal work on two of his brass covered hoppers. One of the brass hoppers, a PS-2CD came with Burlington decals so he decided to have them used. I made a polystyrene placard for the Burlington Route logo and finished one side before going to the other covered hopper and applying more Bloomer decals. Sorry, no sexy pictures. Before I knew it, it was 6:00 and time to close up shop.

Sunday: Was productive but like Saturday, I feel like I only made a small dent in my list. I started my Sunday unfortunately with a painful back which really slowed me down. I did however finally get an older Atlas GP9 running again by completely disassembling it, cleaning it then updating it with a newer Atlas motor and TCS decoder. The locomotive still needs to be broken in, but so far it runs nicely. I then turned my attention to the modules by finishing up the grade crosing. One might think this would be easy, but since the road is crossing the frog and diverging routes of the turnout, one must be fine tuning and sanding said polystyrene before gluing it down. I hope to finish it with the airbrush tonight in anticipation of this weekends show. I next turned my attention to the construction of the module transport unit (MTU?). I had to spend an hour of cleaning up the shop before starting but by 9:30 last night I had the sides done complete with the rails to hold the three modules. I'll finish this up before Friday. Busy weekend, just wish it was a longer weekend!

So how about you? What did you accomplish this past weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday, March 31st and start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and as always...

    High Greens!

We had our first weekend that was warm and dry enough to do some needed exterior work on the house. A month or so ago, I had forgotten to bring in our flag and a big gust of wind during a storm tore the flag holder right out of the wood. First time in 30 years that our house went without an American flag out front for an extended period of time. Repaired, filled, sanded, painted and re-hung the flag on Saturday, and our home looks like our home again.

Sunday was basement/workshop cleanup day. I took the opportunity to hang the last display case that my wife gifted me for Christmas. I wanted it high enough to not interfere with a backdrop on whatever replaces the chainsaw roundy-round you see here.

My first thought after loading the case was "I need more rolling stock!"

My second thought was "NO! I already have more than I can use." But I am sorely tempted. LOL I have two more identical cases upstairs completely full, near my switching layout. I should just rearrange and space things out... but, there's room to fill! LOL

Not a regular poster here, but now I will be!!!

    SATURDAY:

Finished mudding in the mountain on the first of many modules for my future layout of the Alaska railroad.
Im using the one module approach while my wife and I live in an apartment, while I attend college.
(40 year old college student, long story!)

Here's a quick shot, with one painted rock, LOL!
This is in the Kenai mountains, between Whittier and portage.

Edit: I also temporarily placed a few trees just to see how they would look size wise

I worked on my turnouts (Should have done this a long time ago) - I tested every one of them (About 60) at the point rails - any I found that had no continuity, I jumpered to the rail between the point rail and the frog. Man what a chore. Found about a dozen or so. I worked a little on my two pump jacks - they are about ready to be installed on the layout.

Hope ya'll had a great weekend,
    Wolf

Wow - getting DCC all DCC'd up is time consuming. More lubing and moving, spent a couple hours on one DCC decoder before deciding "It's just bad". I'll replace it when time allows.

As I mentioned, I got the final connection done on my long loop sometime Saturday morning (about 3am) and ran trains on it.

I never did get around to working on the yard tracks, but that's coming. I have to get my Shinohara switch problem (shorts the DCC controller when the points are moved) fixed before I make much of anything permanent, and I can't find my danged Dremel anywhere. I spent a couple hours looking for IT on Saturday.

A pic on the still unfinished switch:
