Another weekend is behind us, looks like February will soon be in the rear view mirror at this pace! As predicted, I ordered mainly the track and wire I need for my Inglenook project on Friday but unfortunately, didn't get much done on it. Saturday however was busy, starting with some early morning bank work then onto the airbrush. I gathered together some older Polly Scale colors I still had that would be appropriate for weathering and set out airbrushing the GP30 to look like it is earning its keep. I'm really happy with the results and since the weathering was going so well, I took the opportunity to weather up the cars that were currently on the Galesburg City Job. Since the layout is set in 1966-1968, I weathered cars that were ten years or older more heavily than those that were newer. The results were great and certainly a lot more realistic. From there, I headed to my "not so local" hobby shop and picked up a decoder for a customers locomotive before coming home and having a nice dinner out with my sweetheart. Sunday was busy with a lot of domestic duties, plus Jess, got some parts in the mail the previous day so I decided to spend some quality time with her and install said parts. Hey, she is a Railfan Jeep so that counts as train related! The rest of the afternoon was spent working on a slot car project then a Life Like engine in experimenting with wheel sets and drive line. I took a break to watch my team compete in the Superbowl and wow what a game! Both teams played a great game and made Superbowl history but like any true New Englander, I'm pretty happy with the results! So how about you? How did your weekend go? Did you get a lot done? Let us know. We'll assemble once again on Friday the 10th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and... High Greens!
Did some work on the structures for Weaver Junction. Two scratchbuilt from plastic, and one cardstock. Details on the thread here: Weaver Junction
Got the grade crossings in. Built up a couple of sand towers (In preparation for starting my diesel service tracks). Added some details to Bob's Service Station. Then I messed around in my yard. Actually built up a train. That's about it -- hope ya'll had a great weekend!! Wolf
Made it to the Great Scale Model Train Show in Timonium MD on Saturday. Then ran trains on a friend's N Scale NKP (1960's) layout. I have pics and video from both to edit together for the Youtube channel.
I did get MOST of the LokSound Select Micro install done on my WP F3A. Here is a quick video of the frame with decoder and sound
I ran a first test of the operations plan for my layout... quickly realized that 3 laps was going to be much more of a mess than it's worth, so I also made progress on revising the plan to only 2 laps of the layout. I also acquired some mailing tubes from a friend who was housecleaning, and converted them into a storage "tower" for my flex track... seems like a small thing, but it gives me an organized way to clear off the layout for starting scenery work (I had been "storing" the flex on the layout). Come to think of it, I also got 3 of 4 segments of mainline hooked up to my BDL168 block detector. The 4th will probably get done tonight. That makes 10 of 16 segments (the other 6/12 are staging tracks) hooked up and functioning normally.
I found an old passenger train that I had picked up over 30 years ago at a swap meet when we were visiting out of state friends. Got them for 49 cents each, undecorated, and painted them for the Logn Valley.. I had totally forgot I had these until I found a couple of boxes of various model railroad stuff I had put away years ago. A lot of the stuff was various locomotive detail parts but then there were these passenger cars. Being that I model the transition era, these would be a bit old to run in regular service. What to do. Now it will be a special events train. Here it is at the station waiting to take folks south to a rodeo celebrating "Wild West Days". Here is the train leaving town. Had to come up with something to do with the train. Poor little 2-6-0 is just about at its limit pulling the cars up the grade.
I had my train fix... There was a small model train sale/market held in Laval on Sunday, so I got out of the house, and drove over with an empty shopping bag. It wasn't empty when I left the event. I got my hands on two Athearn locos, a GP38-2 and a GP40-2, so that makes two new projects. I also bagged three Roundhouse Old-Timer kits, one of flat cars, one of ore cars, and one of MOW cars. I already had one with flat cars and found it great when I needed a place to park the boom of a crane. A good day out, meeting people, talking hobby, and having fun.
