Another weekend is in the books, I think....is it over? Yeah? Oh, okay it went so fast... RATS! Yes my weekend went faster than I would have liked but what do you do. Saturday I was running around like a mad man getting everything ready for the operations session and was almost ready when my first guy showed up just before noon. We ordered a pizza for lunch and talked trains before Dave showed up. It was just two guys this weekend, but I gave them a much harder switch list this time and it took them just under two hours to complete. Of course the time went by way too fast and before we knew it, our session was over. Saturday night Ang and I took it easy as we had a long day planned for Sunday. Sunday we were up early and were on the road by 4:30. Turns out the part of Indiana we were going to was on Central Time so no need to leave as early. The ride down was nice, almost no other cars on a big stretch of two lane blacktop. Lots of abandoned roadbed to keep me focused on while riding and talking. We got to our destination around 8:30 and Jared gave us a quick tour of the college, which we enjoyed as it gave us a chance to stretch those legs. A quick stop for breakfast and we were back home by 2:00. Unfortunately we were all too tired to do much, so my Inglenook sits with no progress to report. Hopefully next weekend will be more productive. So how about you? How did you do? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 24th to start a new weekend of planning. Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and... High Greens!
Added power poles to Industrial Saticoy. The fire station received a new block wall. Added a few more details to Bobs' Super Station. And -- I worked on the yard ladders. Finally got them working pretty darn good. Post ballast troubles. Hope ya'll had a great weekend, Wolf
This weekend, with a slight break in the storms, I was able to get outside in the shed, and get all the track cleaned. Had not done that since starting the yard-ballasting project last summer. With clean track, I was able to run trains! I focused on the California Zephyr, with my newly updated locos with ESU LokSound (and LokPilot in B-units) decoders. Even made this video where
I actually managed to knock off several items on my to-do list. Only one photo to show for it, though... I did manage to get the mock-up of (most of) the giant warehouse that hides the staging tracks done... this is just foam poster board cut to shape with a paper printout of the front of the building spray-glued to it. Nothing fancy but it does help give the impression and help with planning. Young Storage by Mark, on Flickr In other news... I worked out the materials I'm going to need for the Inglenook box. I was going to go ahead and cut it out of some plywood I had around but decided to hold out for some oak boards instead for the better appearance. I made forward progress in installing a FRED in a boxcar... going to drill a hole in the undercarriage for the on/off switch, then can probably finish installation tonight or tomorrow. Got the load cell amplifier circuit wired up... now I just need to mount the load cell on something and test it. I pulled the motor from my F7B now-dummy, but the LHS was out of stock on coupler conversions, so that project got put on hold till next week (parts on order). I also got some code work done on my parts of JMRI in prep for the next upcoming development release. So... a good weekend train-wise. Plenty of non-train goodness too, but that's for another thread, another time.
Well, my friend and I drove to Sacramento for Autorama at Cal Expo, so no modeling for me. The only trains that I saw was a westbound Amtrak train, either the Capitol Corridor or The San Joaquin: Since I spent all of Sunday looking at beautiful custom cars, here's one of my favorites a gorgeous Ford coupe:
Mardi Gras season is in full swing on the coast. SO Saturday was Honey Do day to prep the house since we spent Sunday at the parade in Bay St. Louis, MS. Enjoyed much good food, good beverage, and FINALLY introduced the kids to what its all about. And I edited a couple of rail fan videos yesterday . . . . .
Ah back when cars and trucks had some style! I would drive that over just about any modern car any day of the week! Beautiful.
