Can you believe the first quarter of 2017 is almost history? Time flies! We'll be entering our model railroad to do list in a brand new month, lets get started!

Saturday: No work today, my friend and I officially start the 2017 train show season in Urbana Illinois at the Lincoln Square show. This show is one of , if not the oldest model railroad shows of the state. I'll be setting up my modules tonight before meeting my buddy for breakfast tomorrow morning and helping him get set up. One of my favorite shows, it was the first one I attended back in 1999 when I moved to the area and always signaled in the beginning of the train show season here in east central Illinois. It will be a bit bittersweet however as it will be my last time attending. The two of us will be operating the Galesburg City Job in it's current entirety and probably getting the classic questions, "where is the rest of it? trains go in circles!" "Why is it so high?" "Where is Galesburg Illinois?" We'll finish the day with pizza and train videos.

Sunday: As Herman's Hermits sang, "Second verse, same as the first!" More trains, more questions, more good times. After we take down the modules, we'll head home and store my buddy's modules cause, yup, we have a show next weekend in Decatur! I'm really looking forward to running trains and meeting new folks so if you're in the area, please stop by to either show.

So how about you? What is in the books for this weekend? Do you have shows to attend or participate in? Maybe some railfaning? Maybe just staying home and working on or finishing up that project. Whatever it may be, let us know! We'll assemble again on Monday, April 3rd. Until then, play safe and have fun and of course...

    High Greens!

After last weekends work on my turnouts - I hope to return to more fun modelling. I will try and finish up my oil pump jacks and get them installed on the layout. And start my BLI decoder conversion to ESU Loksound select micro. I have a pair of N scale BLI PA's that are in desperate need of better decoders. I won't even get into my runaround with BLI!!

Any way -- ya'll have a great weekend,
    Wolf

Greetings.. This weekend will be working on roadbed and bridges. I've been cleaning up the train attic a little each day this week. It had gotten "out of hand" shall we say. But its ready for some construction stuff to happen this weekend. Hopefully, I'll have something worth getting a picture by later Sunday.

Hello everyone! Hope everybody gets to work on their layout this weekend!
I was able to get quite a bit accomplished on my module this week, Between school work, and the normal family life.

Monday, I covered the module with a dropcloth getting ready to paint the backdrop.

Lesson learned I should've painted the backdrop before I did any mountain building.

Tuesday, painted the backdrop in a dark storm cloud color, then dry brushed some white in while It was drying, to act as clouds and attempt to give it some depth.

It was my first attempt at painting a backdrop, I think it turned out pretty decent, and gave the effect i wanted.

I still need to paint in the background, on the one big spot, snow covered mountains in the background.

The dry brushing technique also came out a lot better than I thought it would.

Wednesday, I attached the five mini fluorescent lights. I've had them for about 10 years, from when I thought I was gonna start working on a shelf layout.

Thursday, I finally started painting the mountains and rocks.

Friday, my day off from school. Soon as my Wife left for work, I did my normal cleaning the house, vacuumed, laundry, the dishes, I was downstairs in the basement by 830!
I painted the temporary end caps to the module. I also painted the inside of the front valance, (storm clouds) and the outside flat black. I then did the facia, and painted that flat black as well, I'm really going for the shadowbox effect. I only want people to focus on the way out, and not be distracted by anything else. I want people to feel like they are really in the Kenai mountains in Alaska.

After taking the picture, I took the valance, and the facia off, so I could get to work on applying the snowy scenery, hopefully tomorrow!

Hope everybody has a great weekend and get some stuff accomplished, and most importantly has fun! I know I sure am!!

    Holy moly, that looks great!

I'm about to start on my own backdrop this weekend - thanks for the inspiration. Yard tracks, backdrop and .. well .. let's leave it at that.

Today a friend and I will be building modules for his model railroad inspired by the HOG. His version will depict the Port of Long Beach. There will also be two freemoN connections for added fun.
