Wow the last day of July is here and we go into the first weekend of August! Do you have anything planned? My weekend will be short as I was supposed to have today off but I got scheduled to work starting at 4:00am. Saturday I work again with just Sunday off before working another three straight days before my weekend of Thursday through Saturday off. That means I have one day to prepare for next weekends Proto Meet in Colinsville IL. I have wanted to go to this meet for three years now but my time with the magazine always prevented me from going. Well this year I plan on going. So Sunday I'll round up all the detailed models I have done in N scale the past few years and pack. So how about you? What do you plan to do this weekend? Build bench work, lay track or paint? Let us know. We'll come back on Monday the 3rd and see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend and... High Greens!
Last weekend of my vacation... It hasn't lasted long enough I'm still in the process of painting/detailing an Atlas GP38 for GTW. I went to a flea market out of town - a real flea market with lots of fleas - where I found, among other things, an Atlas SD35 in Chessie B&O colors. It has a couple of issues, one of which is what seems to be a sticking drive. I have to diagnose that before proceeding. Eh, what do you want for $30? I found a nice metal thermometer with "Due to price increase of ammo do not expect a warning shot." A nice ornament for a door to a train room.
I *apparently* fixed the SD35 - the bone-shaped U-joint connecting the rear truck to the motor was out of its place, so basically the rear truck was dragging... Now for a good lube and a test run. I am happy! There was another sign, Quickies Pump and Polish. A somewhat buxom young lady (in appropriately scanty clothing) brandishing a fuel nozzle and a buffer making moves with a hot rod. Fill'er up and get your rod polished here! I love it.
I'll be getting back to adding details then hopefully a gloss coat on my Bachmann N-Scale SP 70 tonner. (Making progress) Perhaps start working on some more buildings. Thanks, Wolf
For the first time in awhile I actually have some model railroading planned! I bought the foam on Monday to start new my z-scale layout. And my plan is to cut out at least a rough shape of the 2ftx4.5ft footprint and get the track laid out on it to make sure the "on paper" version translates to real geometry. Also planning to visit a fellow model railroading buddy to help him work out the operations scheme for his huge n-scale layout.
This weekend is all about preparing for Portland. With the NSE a month ago, and NTS in a month, now is the time to go over all the Silicon Valley FreeMoN modules on my possession, and ready them for the trip. Unlike our usual local show process, we are loading a lot of modules into a trailer for the trip North, which we tested with NSE. We learned, from Sacramento, that wires and scenery were more prone to damage this way, so I have devised a set of foam-board travel covers to go over the sides and bottoms of the paired modules. Plus, I noticed a lot of the signage on my station module faded, so need to print new signs and replace the old ones. Plus, all the normal spruce up before a big show.
