Welcome back to the gateway to the weekend. I hope you all had a good week and are now ready to line up those projects in the train room. With the holidays over and packed away, I hope to return my attention back to the layout. Let's dig in.

Saturday: No leaving early on Friday so Saturday will be the start of my weekend. I plan to start it with coffee and wander into the workshop and asses the next steps with the N scale layout. Before Thanksgiving, I was able to cut the upper and lower fascia from 1/4-inch wood. While the height of the fascia is done, I still need to cut the overall width and adhere it to the shadowbox. This will all hinge on the temp in the garage. It may be warm enough with the help of a few heaters, to work in the garage with outside temps in the high 30s. If the garage is not warm enough, I may work on the layout itself and install the last three turnout servos and with any luck lay the three spurs.

Sunday: No real plans. This time of year, I tend to stay close to home as I will be away towards the end of the month. I'll likely continue whatever I was doing with the N scale layout and may document it with my build thread here on Trainboard. I will be subject to the whims of the domestic Goddess as well so I will remain flexible with my time.

So how about you? What do you have planned for the first full weekend of 2024? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 8th to see how well we did. Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and as always...

    High Greens!

    Happy Friday all!

Friday after the full work day, I plan on finishing up organizing the train related papers I have in the train room. Got them all sorted during the week and have notebooks to put them in. Just need to make cover inserts for the notebooks and get them finished. Doesn't sound like much but it goes a long way in making things neater and easier to find when needed.
Saturday, the wife and i will be taking our son out for a nice late lunch and then back down to his dorm. Spring semester starts this coming week. So, in the morning, I will probably get up around 6 just like I would on a normal work day, start with some coffee and then get to work on the fascia on the layout until everyone is up. They all like to sleep in which is good for me. If we get back home at a decent time, I'll probably start a load of laundry and head back down to the layout.
Sunday should be a mostly free day to work on the layout. There will be a little more laundry to finish up and the wife may want to organize the storage room where the Christmas decorations go but otherwise, I hope to continue to make good progress on getting the new fascia attached to the layout.

We shall see what else pops up too. Hope you all have a great weekend!!!!

    Good morning all!

This weekend I have several things I'd like to work on, all of equal importance to me. So therefore, morning coffee will determine the order of the following:
    • Work on some on-going scenery projects
    • Pull several engines to the work bench do some maintenance chores.
    • Clean out some cabinets below my work bench of junk and "what-all" that now are just taking up space.
    • Start hanging RR related signs/posters in the stairwell leading up to the train room. I have a collection of that stuff just cluttering up my work office that either needs to be used or "deep-sixed".
There will also be the "taking down" of exterior Christmas decorations, but should not take too much time. The interior stuff is all down, boxed up, stored away.

Have a great weekend and again, Happy New Year to all.

I’m on my last day of vacation today, back to work on Monday. I slept in and will finish removing the exterior decorations this morning and then I’ll get back to track planning. I wanted to get more done than track planning over my winter vacation but I don’t think that’s in the cards.

    Good morning everyone,

The EZ Line I had ordered arrived yesterday, so I hope to install that on the GHQ crane. I'll continue adding shrubbery to the hillside on the east end of the layout and work on the road grade crossing. Continue working on and perhaps finish the work on the smaller Ntrak club staging yard.

You all have a great weekend whatever you are doing.

Greetings! From a Feel'ing Much Better Model Railroader on a Beautiful Sunny Chilly Day in McLean VA.
Priority: Putter Weekend. Do stuff but don't get too focused.
    Friday through Monday will *Proabably*
    • Paint now 'pinkish' parts of the 'Monster Mountain' in contrasting stratifications.
    • Re-design the Yard to Industrial area:
      • Eliminate the direct access to the main at the industrial area
      • Add a 'run-a-round' track in the that area.
        • This will fix a 'forced kink' in the track
        • The Main Line will no longer be used for run-a-round
    • Hope to block out the various industries.
    • Hope to start base for 'Midway Mystrium Mine'
Have fun, eat your veggies and stay healthy Everyone!

Well, it has been a total waste of the week modeling wise, my wife went in for surgery to repair her torn meniscus along with cleaning out any arthritis in her right knee, so I have been helping her all week and it will continue all weekend.

I may do some decaling while she is napping, and I will be able to get to bowling tonight, hopefully my good bowling on Tuesday night will continue today.

I may also get permission to go to the club for a little while this Saturday but don't count on it yet, her pain is going down and the pain pills and Advil are helping with that and she is getting use to using the walker.

I will be doing the laundry on Sunday and hope to get some painting done along with finishing the decaling on a couple of cars that I managed to start when I had time this week.

Thirty degrees sounds very cold. Organizing to make things easier to find. I can relate. Operating session! Reminds me, the Mogul's tender has broken running gear. In the "shop" now. Yeah, vacations run out too soon. :( We'll soon have a crane at work. ;) Will eat veggies soon. (y) Glad for surgical repairs. Decals should "finish 'er up" mostly. Well, here we are. Another week in the bag. Last Sunday evening I began upgrading turnouts. The last iteration was built June 22nd, 2020. They have not worn well. Yesterday, I came up with a better design. However, something seemed a little wrong. :cautious: You all know the rule: If you ain't happy with it now... So, late yesterday, I started to think about an improved design that, in theory, should work better and look more realistic. I began to hack away at this idea earlier today. Barring me "puttering" things will hopefully start coming together. Stay warm and have a great weekend. :D

    Hey All,

I hope you are all having a happy and healthy new year. It looks like a nice weekend here, weather wise, so probably a lot of yard work and house fixin' projects. I grabbed several cars off of ebay and from Tangent, and will try to work toward 1980s-ifying them and some weathering. I find these old Roundhouse cars, for example, really hold up to use as operator cars when weathered and a few added details.

Hope you have a good weekend....take care all.

No fun on the layout this weekend. No running trains. No scenery work. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Since Wednesday I've been packing away all my locomotives and cars in their jewel boxes and storing them for the winter. All the vehicles will be taken off the layout. The buildings that aren't glued down will be put away and stored. I've fashioned covers out of old sheets for laying over the layout surface. We are preparing to head south to our winter home until May.

That is if my baby brother is well enough to travel. After he was released earlier in the week, we made preparations for him to fly to stay with other family in Florida, his choice. But as of this morning he returned to the hospital. He is an hour and a half from us, so any assistance means putting off anything at home and delaying our own plans until we know he's well enough to care for himself. If all goes according to yesterday's plans, we'll be leaving Monday, also assuming the winter storm predicted for Sunday has run it's course.

The only good news in any of that is that I've assembled a large tool box with various Kato Unitrack, a power pack and wires, and a few dozen locos and cars so I can play around in the winter home. I'm considering building a couple of modules or possibly a shelf layout that I can set up in the garage. I'll be limited on the tools I can take with me, though. And since we rent the house out when we're back home, whatever I build, plus the tools, will all have to be put away securely so it's not broken or stolen.

If the weather turns out as predicated, we will be doing things inside. We may begin takin down the Christmas decorations. We do have some running do such as the grocery store and possibly Target. There is always the never-ending laundry.

I plan on working more on the Ashmore Hotel kit. I am currently adding the glass to the windows. Next will be adding the interior decorations to the windows and then assembling the walls. I need to continue removing accumulated equipment that is on the layout and I then I can run some trains.

YIKES! My last post to the weekend group was August 14th! I can honestly say it was the last weekend I actually had plans for train-related activities. Which brings me to now. I am recuperating from a long-planned hernia surgery. Obviously, being "long-planned" means it was no surprise or emergency. Limited physical activity means more time to sit at the keyboard.

I have two objectives for the weekend:

    1. Catch up on all of your activities over the last few months. Be on the lookout for long overdue "Likes."
    2. Figure out what I need to get restarted in the train department.

Monday, I hope to regale all with my sterling accomplishments and a synopsis of what I have been doing the last four months.

    Hi Mark, welcome back!(y)

It's always fun to come back to over 100 "Alerts" in the upper right corner, isn't it!?

My plan is to finish my shelves that include lighting for the C&L Layout. Light's installed now clean up, and adjustments to be made and install a few more shelves. I can't believe how much better it looks already, simply amazing.

Sounds like you had the old standard invasive surgery. Mine was the robotic. I was up and around and able to resume my job, in a week. Except I then had other complications related to the surgery.

Mine was robotic. I wrote the original post on the third day after surgery. Still icing every two hours at that time. Feeling much better now. I am still restricted from lifting more than twenty pounds. I will take your message as a word of caution and relax for a few more days.
