Well we have done it once again. Another weekend is approaching and that means its time to gather around the pot belly stove of the station and tell each other what we want to get done this weekend. Saturday: According to the weather folks, we are supposed to get some snow this weekend. Granted, its not the "Nor' Easter" this New Englander is used too, but it is enough for me to justify getting all the domestic duties done tonight so we can stay home safe and sound all weekend. My main goal for the weekend was to work on my Inglenook project so it was ready for an upcoming show the end of February. Problem is, my shop is completely out of Atlas Code 55 right hand turnouts. While this is a small problem for my tabletop switching layout, it is by far a bigger problem for the Galesburg City Job 2.0! I guess at this point, I'm going to try and finish the Galesburg City Job modules in the workshop as the garage will once again be too cold to work in. Sunday: I did start a small structure for the Inglenook, a small Micro Engineering building that fits perfectly in the spur of the Inglenook. I have most of the basic construction done, now I just need to clean it and get it ready for paint. I really hope to get the work shop re-arranged to better fit the City Job 2.0 modules as well. As with any weekend, some time spent with Angela and Lucy will be required as well but I'm really hoping for a productive weekend. So how about you? What do you have planned for this coming weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 12th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and as always... High Greens!
Nothing really planned for this weekend. I am done with trees for a while. I still have that pile from last weekend to finish up. I will see what happens by Monday.
Saturday: Continue work on my F7 project. Perhaps work on my new S-12. Sunday: The same -- I hope. Hope Y'all have a fantastic weekend!! Wolf
After the week I had at work I think I'll just spend the weekend in a high state of intoxication. God forbid I pick up an exacto knife....
Saturday planing on visiting my father who lives at an assisted living facility and has advanced Alzheimers. It is very upsetting for me. He is the person that got me interested in model trains and the history of railroads and logging in North Central Pa. When I get home I'm going to start working on my second Nn3 turnout. I finished the first one this past week. It turned ok, but not up to my standards. I'm going to write up a 3x5 card of lessons learned and ways to improve construction. After that I'll photograph it then salvage the rail and start over.
Continue working on a small coal yard. Hoping to get the painting done on bridge and bents. Modify rail for dumping coal and getting it painted as well.
Here is the turnout I completed last week. An MT Nn3 truck rolls through it ok. The pcb ties de-laminated at a couple key spots and the tangent closure rail started to curl where it overhangs the throwbar. Next time I'll forego the wood ties. I'm still getting too much solder on ties and my frog placement was a touch too close to towards points. Time to salvage rail and start over.
Like a lot of narrow gauge logging lines, I salvaged the rail but no ties. I figure sometimes a step back is still progress. I learned a lot from building this turnout but it is time to move on. The left hand of the pair is coming along nicely. I'll post photos on the weekend accomplishments thread.
