Well we have just about made it through another week. Time to start thinking about all those model railroad projects you want to get done. Bloomer Box 3 by Jim Wiggin posted Apr 22, 2016 at 6:55 AM Bloomer Hopper by Jim Wiggin posted Apr 22, 2016 at 6:56 AM Last Friday, I finished the last of the O scale Bloomer for a while. The covered hopper is based on a CB&Q scheme and is to date my favorite one. Once the Ohio N Scale Weekend is over, I have a SD35, more freight cars and a caboose to paint up in this same line. I think this customer is obsessed! N Scale Weekend 2 by Jim Wiggin posted Apr 22, 2016 at 6:58 AM Saturday, I plan to finish up all those boxcars I posted a bit back. So far the 4 Reading cars are done and as seen here the 3 B&M are almost done. Last night I got one side of both the Union Railroad of Oregon boxcars done and hope to finish the other side tonight. That leaves the 2 D&H cars to decal yet. I hope to get the airbrush fired up tomorrow as I have two new Atlas S2 Alco's ready for paint, a GP40 for ICG and a GP7 for Rock Island. It should be a very busy Saturday in the shop. Sunday is yard work day but after that and the soccer games, I will work on my modules. My buddy is coming down next weekend and we are planning a weekend of ballast, static grass, operations and maybe if we have time, railfaning. I need to get a few things done on the modules before he comes down so Sunday will be my day to get a bunch off the "To Do" list. So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend? Let us know, with an image or two if you have them. We'll come back here on Monday the 25th and see what we accomplished. Finally, all of you that know me know that I'm a fan of music, mainly Classic Rock, older Country, Folk and even Classical. 2016 has not been a good year for those who have influenced the music of our time. While I was not an active listener of his works, he did influence the music in which he crafted. From playing 20 instruments to staying out of the scandal spot light, Prince is another creative musician that has left us far too soon. You Will Be Missed High Greens!
Looks like Saturday will be taken up with cleaning the house and it's Rainier Clean Up Day so the mushroom growing carpet from the train room along with other stuff will be going. Once each year the city has clean up day where you can get rid of junk you don't want/need for free. Tomorrow's the day. Jim with doing the Union Railroad of Oregon how about painting the Alco S-2's in City of Prineville?
Hey Jim, Any chance those Bloomer Covered Hopper decals come in N scale? That's a neat fictional scheme that would look great loading out plastic pellets at my polyolefins plant . . . .
Bummer, no model railroading this weekend(as I'm chomping at the bit to start putting down some ground cover-- finally). Gonna be doing some cowboy reenacting. (Gonna be a hoot!!) So, hope ya'll have a great and productive weekend!! Enjoy, Wolf
I'm going to make a concentrated push to finish trackwork, and I know there is at least one persnickety switch that needs a touch of the file.
Probably won't get to any modeling this weekend. A friend and I are going to the West Coast Dream Machine car and airplane show in Half Moon Bay, Ca. on Sunday. I haven't been to this show but my friend has been several times with his wife and promises it'll be great. I'm looking forward to it!
I was going to take photos of the layout this weekend. Cloudy forecast, but I dropped and destroyed my camera! New one in the mail! Jim
The past 6 weeks has been extremely busy at work. (Not complaining, nice problem). So, I don't have much time at home during the week to plan ahead. Meanwhile, I've gotten almost half of my benchwork done and also the plywood on the staging leg. (36"x 23'). This weekend, I need to step back and do some planning on paper or computer to map out the final benchwork framing schemes. Also need to work on some bridges. As I lay down track, I will want most (if not all) bridges done so I don't have to worry about "cutting them in" in the future. Obviously, I won't even finish one bridge in one weekend, but I need to get started. So... This week end will be spent in the workshop "getting ahead" of the layout building in the train room. The joys of being a "lone wolf" modeler. There are several folks in the area that offer assistance on benchwork/tracklaying. I may also spend the weekend researching a phone number or 2.
Hey Philip, yes eventually as I plan to build most if not all of the Bloomer Lines GP10's and other Paducah rebuilds. Ken is right, the Bloomer is a real railroad that started in the mid 1980's. The guy who painted the locomotives was a good man and loved the CB&Q so the scheme is a direct knock off. Even though the Bloomer doesn't have any revenue cars that I know of, the hopper scheme may show up as an N scale decal as well.
Jim, Thanks. The history is fascinating, and as mentioned that Hopper decal in N scale would be welcome . . . .
