Does anyone know how I should go about looking for some Kato engine replacement parts? I recently destroyed the cab windows on a recently purchased undec. SD90MAC while disassembling it to prep for painting and need to buy replacements. While I'm at it, I figured I would take an inventory of the parts I will probably maim or destroy in the future and buy spares before Kato runs out of them. I haven't found any online suppliers that carry replacement parts, and there are no shops in my area that do either. What have been your experiences in dealing directly with Kato's Parts department or with other distributors...will I find what I'm looking for, or should I just jump on my sword now. Your help and suggestions would be appreciated. P.S. How do you remove those #$@*# windows from the SD90MAC cab without breaking them. Is it really that difficult, or am I just all thumbs
Call kato's customer service. You will have the parts within a week. I have never had trouble getting parts from any major manufacturer.
Hmmmmm....you thought taking 'em out was hard? Wait 'till you try to put a new set in! I had to cut the windshield free from the side windows and install them separately. I cannot imagine how these are factory installed. The clear plastic marrs easily too...careful with excessive pressure/pushing! Kato readily supplies these, however. Order a few so you can wreck a couple. Russ
One of the most recent issues of N Scale or N Scale Railroading (?) had a section on disassembling the SD90MAC. I am going to be doing the same thing when I have time to do some painting. The article walks you through it very well. If I remember, I will verify which magazine it was this evening when I get home.
If you remove the bottom foam layer in the packaging you will find the parts sheet /order form. KATO is the good source for KATO parts [ 14 January 2002: Message edited by: sd9043mac ]
I maimed my cab windows, too... Methinks I need to call up for some parts, too. I'm doing a custom BN '90MAC in tiger stripes.
I recently dealt with Kato via email for Mikado parts, and I'll say I'm most pleased with the service.
Hi, not been a computer geek so I'm not sure how to get the information that you want to you, through this board. From what i'm seeing, Dimi is somehow involved with the inventory tracking for Kato. I have the complete list of all Kato USA parts that are available updated as of Dec. 04/01 Send an email to me at lewisart@shaw.ca and I'll send the entire file to you in an attachment. That way you'll have the list and be connected to the site that seems to be being updated continually. Anyway you'll have the web site available to add to your favorites. I can't even remember how I got it, but somehow I did. Gary
Try http://www.dimitrains.com/instock/220.htm Appears to be a copy of the Kato catalogue, though they claim to have it in stock. Probably worth asking about the cab windows, and some of the other parts. Gary.
