For the beginners (like me) out there - I had installed a PECO electro-frog long crossing, and was in the process of having to install a DPT switch, which was a pain. So I replaced the electro-frog crossing with a PECO Insul-frog crossing. Bingo. No special wiring needed or swithes to throw. Just one of those "boy, this is much easier" moments...

You must be using C80. In C55 we don't have a choice, it's all insul frog, which is fine with me. Luv my Peco. I do like the way electro frog sounds though.
    Superheroish.. ELECTRO-FROG!
EDIT: I miss spoke. C55 is all Electro frog not insul frog (not the first time I got them backwards) except crossings which are available in either. Open mouth, insert foot. I'll ry to be more careful in the future.

I use Peco code 55 electrofrog, and do not need any special wiring

I would not use anything than electrofrog, that way there is no dead section. As long as the insulation breaks are in the correct places, no special wiring is needed.

We were having problems with the long Peco Insul-frog crossings on one of our club modules. Many locomotives with wide wheel treads would short the two opposing rails together right were they joined the insulation and were the closest together. We ended up having to go in and insulate the diverging tracks and install a slide switch to power only one route at a time. One benefit is that we had fewer collisions at the crossing between two trains when someone forgot to stop and wait until clear. :D

Fully agree, that is why I originally had placed an Electro-frog crossing. It was nice however to have the Insul-frog option to avoid any tricky wiring in this one paticular situation. I'm also probably breaking some rules by using c55 on the mainline, and c80 in the yards. But it works. It will give me something to go back and rebuild someday...
