I got a Testors decal kit from Santa, so I've finally been able to get some rolling stock together. These are more of a patch job than a full paint job. Originaly Penn Central, the roof and ends have been painted, as well as any running boards. I saved the original reporting data and just gave them numbers and logos. Some still need dull coat (it's been to cold to paint) and of course they all need better trucks and couplers, but it's starting to look like a real fleet.
That's certainly going to be a unique fleet. We'll all recognize it right away. Please tell a little more about the decal process you used? Boxcab E50
I used a Lexmark ink jet printer. The Testors kit came from WalMart, $5 or $6. Half sheet of clear and half sheet of white, can of sealer, mini disc of software (basically useless). It is some thick stuff and even Walthers Solvaset had a hard time with this stuff. Now that I've done some I'm more willing to try a better type of film, still have plenty of sealer! It was a trial and error process for me. Finally ended up doing what others have suggested to me: Gloss coat, decal, gloss coat, dull coat. The second gloss coat gives a uniform finish for the dull coat to flatten. Otherwise there was always a decernable (to me) difference. Any other freelancers have pics of their equipment??? [ 11. I'll have an ex Chessie system GP40 renumbered pretty soon and a newly painted caboose and some stenciled boxcars. My railroad uses a lot of 2nd and third hand equipment. I also have an SDP40 that needs painting. Also too cold here to do anything.
John, looks really good. Thanks for sharing with us. Jeff Augsburg & Concord R.R. (a fictional shortline in Central Illinois) Come see us on the web: http://www.pegnsean.net/~revnjeff
I have some pics of my freelance High Desert & Sierra locomotives. The lettering was made with Microscale "Trimfilm clear". First, I made the lettering on my computer and saved it on a floppy disc. Then I brought the floppy to a copy shop, where the guys printed this stuff to the Trim Film with a laser printer. It works very well and sometime I`ll make some lettering for boxcars and graincars Stefan Railfan`s Homepage Railimages Gallery
