Ok i have narrowed the paint scheme for my fictional railroad down to three schemes. I need some critiqes. I need some expert help and choices. Be honest!!!!. The link is below Scheme page
I think I like the second one the best. The first scheme uses the diagonal line which isn't common (or used at all ?) by prototype railroads; doesn't mean I didn't like it, too, but you wanted our preferences! The third scheme is a little plain for me, reminds me of the current KCS scheme (which I don't think too much of, either). Either the first or the second would be a good choice. Pat
I agree that the second scheme looks very good, but I haven't seen that many RR's putting white up by the stacks - tends to look dirty quickly from the exhaust. The third scheme looks more typical, but it is also pretty bland.... My youngest would probably like something with lots of colors! He's 6, so you've got to forgive him. Mark in Utah
I like the second one,I think your 90% there. As mentioned, white is very difficult to keep clean, you might want to drop the grey on the very top and keep the white on the sides, seperating them by the black band.I start by making doodle drawings in color, steal the kids Crayolas, just to get an idea of where to go.Happy Modelling
Thanks alot guys for all the input, now that i look at the second one i think it is much better. But it still needs some refinement [ 23. January 2003, 21:50: Message edited by: Jake ]
Your second scheme looks the best to me. Maybe removing the first (top) black stripe would make it appear "cleaner", and also allow you to add "billboard" lettering in the future if you desired. Would it look too much like the SOO Line? Don't think so. But it sure would be sharp! Are you locked into red & white? What are the other possibilities, if any? Good luck.....be sure and let us know what you decide.
In re: paint scheme number 2. What would happen if you changed the white-over-red to red-over-gray, or red-over-white?
Or, how about making the red a Navy, Black, or gray, the upper white red, or Navy, and then leave the white for the lettering area. A billion sweet combiinations here, you don't need to remove that second line, if you want to make that the lettering area...and you could even have a two word Roadname, and then run them in speed lettering, the first word centered on te upper stripe, and the seond centered on the lower stripe. This is FUN!!!!
Just one of many possibilities...and I am sure a simplified version would rule this one out. I cannot get the picture to post...I need to go take care of that first. [ 25. January 2003, 21:35: Message edited by: Benny ]
