....(it wasn't ticking) from my friendly neighborhood model railroad pusher, with the 5 pack of Athearn 53' JB Hunt containers and a pair of their new Ford C cab trucks (Box & Stake bodys)and I have to say these are all excellent! [IMG]

The containers have subtle lettering differences with each other, plus all the aluminium bits already painted on (a personal gripe of mine about most manufacturers painted kits/rtr intermodal boxes/trailers is that you then have to mask over their paint job to put in all the silver bits!)

The Ford trucks are absolutely stunning, the load part of the body simply clips on so you can easily convert to a specialist body if you wanted (MOW truck?) the printing around the cab on my two were first rate, the chassis is also great with a separate drive shaft & exhaust modelled.
The box body version is quite cleverly modelled. There is an aluminium coloured box with white panels that clip to the sides/ends to form the white painted parts, that should make it a doddle to decal if you wanted to, or if they want to do a version with smooth panels instead of corrugated it should be easy also.
The stake truck has lots of wood grain effect on the stakes and the bed, as it comes the stakes are white and the bed is black, anyone have any idea if that is right? Should it be unpainted wood on the bed? Any idea's folks?

Some nice additions there, and very nicely modelled, now all I need to do is kitbash some 53' container chassis so i can load them Hunt boxes on my piggyback train!

    ATB ;)

Due to the simplicity of painting, I have seen truck beds in these colors and then ranging all the way to my dad's truck bed. Sometimes the best way to preserve an old bed is a good coat of paint. And if the bed is metal, then it is usually black in the first place. it is also pretty easy to break out the paint and repaint it in a wood color(just make sure that the metal parts are black or so)

Hi Martyn - I've been meaning to welcome you to Trainboard - Welcome! [IMG]

Sounds like I need to get my hands on some of them trucks. The 53' containers are pushing the upper edge of my 1995 timeframe (I am a BNSF free zone) as they aren't very common before 1995.

Have you kitbashed a chassis before? The Walthers extendable chassis is a good starting point.

Hi there! and thanks for the welcome :D

Those Hunt boxes are pushing the edge of the era of my piggyback set as well, it's going to end up with clean & non-faded Santa Fe B40-8W's....(provided they don't lose the UK bound container overboard.....) but they were nice, and they were "right", that seemed like a good combination after trawling through loads of generically lettered '90s trailers, and simultaneously decalling '70s trailers because it's pretty much the only way to get them, but enough of my grumps!

Thanks Benny for the thoughts on the truck beds, from looking at it again this evening I may try drybrushing a little beige or grey across it to bring out the wood grain & make it look a little worn, Thanks again for your help.

I've also discovered the cabs dismantle easily as well for you to paint the interior or add a driver, these are good! I should probably stop going on about it now 'coz you'll all think I work for Athearn :D
