Hopefully this will breathe a little life into this forum! For starters, those who want to superdetail their engines, look no further! Want cheap, easy grab irons? Well then, see: My grab irons how-to . Enjoy!!
I've been thinking about making my own, this just may be the inspiration I needed.Pretty much how I planned to make mine.
That is how I have made mine in the past, but I cheated recently and acquired some from Craig Martin (BLMA)
so did all the pics from myself and craig martyn make you go completely insane and try this? i am beginning to think a person has to be to do this kind of detailing in n scale. just kidding great idea.
That's a nice How-To Hemi. I do lots of forming of grabs myself. I probably did over 500 so far this year. I even form them in Z and HO Scales too. This N Scale ATSF Way Car has 40 hand formed grabs:
Mopac & Pray59, Your respective work inspires me to do such things! I have been doing hand-made grabs for a couple of years now. I first used them on the imfamous TigerMAC.
Great idea! A how to column. Everyone can always use new ideas or even reminders of other techniques that exist. I prefer to use premade storebought grabs but when I can't get any, I'm definately not afraid to make my own. They turn out just as good and are a great way to eat up some spare time. When you get good at it, you can watch your favorite train video and form grabs by the hundreds without a thought.
