    Greetings all [IMG]

Following a couple of posts I have been doing some research, but I am in need of some more detailed knowledge ... ie help please [IMG]

The CN had some LMSX leasing C40-8 units painted in blue which I believe were called c40-8W like this...

okay, I also see that Atlas do (or did) an 8-40 of the 8-40BW type..

Now I have spotted the number board difference on the cab, but are there any other major problems in using a 40BW to represent a 40W or is it just one of those.. yeah I know the number boards are wrong, and I can live with that type difference (assuming I can still get the Atlas Loco) [IMG]

Hey, I just want a blue CN loco on my roster [IMG]

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Regards

    Quick follow up...

It looks awfully like the LMSX loco has 6 wheel bogies.. is this just a trick of the light or is this right? If right, that blows the whole idea [IMG]

You're two axles short on the chassis for a start! [IMG]

The C and B in the designations denote 6 (Co) and 4 (Bo) axles respectively.

I would guess the body will be shorter somewhere along the line as well.

Bachmann does/did a C40, but i'm not an N modeller so will refrain from commenting. ;)

    Greetings Martyn [IMG]

LOL.. thanks for responding to a really dumb question [IMG]

OK, this is a fact I will deffinately remember now.. Should have guessed being used to Bo-Bo and Co-Co designations [IMG]

okay, plans shelved for now... Maybe if I see a bachmann one in a shop I will look closely, but the name scares me [IMG]

One thing to keep in mind, Atlas has been tipped to do the 6 axle version for quite a while now, the spartan cab 6 axle is coming in HO, and no doubt the wide noses will follow. With Atlas they often produce stuff in more than one scale, so patience may produce one eventually...

Bachmann dose make a C40-8W, IF you can get a good runner, and IF you want to replace the handrails, you MIGHT be able to live with it.

Actually, Bachmann has just released a "new and improved" C40-8W (with the spartan cab model to follow) and supposedly they are fairly decent models. Better handrails, better details, DCC ready, among other qualities. I would definitely check them out, although I'm not sure what the price is on the new run.

Also, I believe that the LMS units are among the roadnames, so a simple patch job would get you where you want to be.

Not that it really matters at this point, but the Atlas Dash 8's are VERY easy to find. I've seen lots of them both in hobby shops and they're on Ebay all the time. So, if you did want one, you could get one. I have three myself and from what I hear they're great little engines (I couldn't tell you though because I can't run trains yet).

Just looking further, the Bachmann are available at the mo.

Doesn't look particularly nice there, but i'm wondering if that's the old version (Walthers have a habit of showing the old version of Bachmann stuff!)

I had high hopes for the new Bachmann run, but apparently they have raised their MSRP to $135, which would bring the street price to around $90. For that kind of money, go for a Kato C44-9W and work with that,if you can live with it. You can get them on Ebay and you will have a great runner, the Bachmann will probably be a crap shoot. I have a Kato C44 painted in LMS and looks good to me, but i don't count rivets, lol.
