Have been thinking on this, thought perhaps I should just ask you folks... I am considering modeling a small logging Mike. Looking at something which I could use as a basis for imitating lokeys such as Rayonier #2 or #70. Both of these had small, 44 inch drivers. Or, I should say have, as both still exist and are operational. I even had a cab ride in the 70, several decades back... Anyhow, hoping for input, ideas, or ? Just to get close to that 44 inch size, to create a similar appearance. Not intending to bash up an attempt at any exact replica.
FYI - from another site concerning the old Mantua 2-8-2's and their 63 inch drivers, "2-8-2 Mikados 2-8-2 Mikado - Very odd looking beast. I've been told by several people it is close to a Lehigh Valley Mikado, or a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 0-3. Others had suggested it is close to the NYC H-10 Mikado, minus an overhanging feedwater heater. Drivers are 63 inches or so in diameter, a good common size." Closer than what you might otherwise find. Just a thought!
Another possibility, MDC Old Time 2-8-0: 52" drivers Possibly add trailing truck? Edit: USRA 0-8-0 switchers in real life had 51" drivers so maybe one of them may be modifiable.
I have a small 0-4-0 switcher I got from my club’s “junk box”. I don’t know the manufacturer. I think it might be an old LifeLike. It has 48” drivers not including the flange. Buying two of those for drivers might work.
On Brasstrains.com right now, there are a few Rayonier locomotives. They are all 2-6-2 or articulated. There is #30 and #45
Update: NWSL imported number 70. Here it is on Brass Price Guide. You would have to go out and find it because this is just their archival/reference site. https://www.brasstrains.com/BrassGu...ayonier-ITT-Rayonier-Railroad-2-8-2-70-MIKADO
Wow. 1972? A million years ago, or so it seems! You can see from the photos those tiny drivers/appearance of my interest.
I forgot about number 2. Overland made a Willamette Shay, which looks to be a model of #2 (judging by the label on the box).https://www.brasstrains.com/BrassGu...nier-ITT-Rayonier-Railroad-3-TRUCK-WILLAMETTE
I should have noted that Rayonier had two separated operations. One had a Shay #2 and the other the 2-8-2 #2. Both exist and operate to this day. That latter loco is operating on the Oregon Coast Scenic RR.
