Technically, I'm not from Hawaii at all - I'm on vacation here. However, I was poking around at old links (being on vacation gives you more free time than normal - imagine that) and started looking at Model Railroading again. Suffice to say that after two weeks on Maui, I'm ready to go home to Washington state and start modeling. Amazon has been kind enough to send me a shiny new DCC locomotive (New York Central GP7 - destined for a repaint to circa 1960 Great Northern) and an NCE DCC starter set - which are waiting at home for me now! I've been out of modeling for some 20 years now, but I've been bitten by the bug again and will be digging out my boxes and boxes of old locomotives and cars, scenery and sundry other stuff. DCC was just in it's infancy when I got out of the hobby - my gosh, it's come a long ways. I was hooked as soon as I heard a GP9 idle to a stop, wait for a garage door to open and then push it's hopper of coal into the interior of a building. Complete with engine RPMs up, brake noises .. compressor running .. This could be a very expensive vacation if I have to put DCC and sound into all my old locos, now. I've always enjoyed painting and weathering - but I'm not much of a stickler for "lore", meaning I mostly model what I like and make up a story as to why it's out of it's era. Hm .. wonder how much justification it would take to have an SD70MAC on my 1960's GN diorama... Thanks for letting me ramble - maybe I'll see you around! Vic
Hi Vic, welcome home. Of course, get a "whatever" you like and create a back-story to make it fit (rationalize it?). It's your creative art form, you just have to please yourself....and have fun.
Welcome aboard, Vic. Sounds like you are ready to get down to business when you get home. Keep us posted.
