Hi, having been raised in a railroad family I was introduced to trains at an early age, I'm also a maker. For the most part, I model in 1:20.3 or Fn3, I've recently been working towards setting up a garden railway and was originally thinking about using battery power/radio control. but have been playing with the idea of using DCC. and or making my own sound cards and or control systems. while seeing what people may have done already I found the concept of using an Arduino to create a DCC++ system. I joined this group as I've been having some issues with the sketches, and was looking for some support. also, I'm one of the Admins for the 1:20.3 fine scale models, group on facebook
Welcome to TrainBoard, Kristine. I must admit, I've never heard of your particular scale, which seems interesting. I'd love to see some photos of your work and equipment! Again ... welcome!
Hi Kristine, welcome. We are happy to have you on board. I hardly am anything like an expert on train modelling, but I also have never heard of Fn3, 1:20.3, and would love to see photos. However, I am a Facebook member and am about to pop over to the Fine Scale Models Group for a look-see. Is there a way I can ask to become Friends on the 1:20.3 FB page. It looks interesting and I'd like to follow it. Note that I've modeled N-Scale for 35 years, and HO for 35 years before that, but F looks like an interesting format for obscure trolley wire transportation...even if I have to invent it myself.
Welcome..........I think you'll be happier if you stick with your original idea of battery/remote. As nice as DCC can be, it lives on clean track and a good signal..........an outdoor G/F layout does not lend itself to either of those things. Fn3 is basically G scale narrow gauge. Bachmanns "G scale" Heisler, Shay. Climax, and Mallet are all 1:20.3. G scale encompasses scales from 1:32 to 1:20.3, which all run on the same track.
Welcome aboard. I agree with others that it would be interesting to see more of your work and progress.
