We have a Forum Moderator who may be the one with some answers for you. Right now he's vacationing. Should be back early next week.

I had to smile when I saw your user name. It really took me back a few decades. I remember when that band first gained some national recognition. If memory is correct, they were using the name Grand Trunk RR. But had to change it for obvious reasons.

    Welcome aboard!

    Hi Grand......welcome to TrainBoard.
I don't know what exactly you're looking for, but two of my favorites in your area, where there's always some action, are Binghamton and East Deerfield. (Looks like you're almost dead center between them).
At Binghamton be sure to check out the NYS&W (ex Erie) one stall diesel shop, and at East Deerfield the "railfan" bridge is a must. Check out Tom Nano's website (link below), for some of his great "from the bridge" shots of movements and motive power make-ups. Also some of the local Guilford fans meet on a regular basis near Hoosac Tunnel and even have barbeques there during the summer whilst railfanning.
I'm planning another trip to EDF and Hoosac this summer, and could possibly meet you there....always a lot of action, especially now with so many SOO Line units (in both flavors) on the property.

Welcome to TB Grand. I don't know what your willingness to travel to railfan is but there are plenty of prime spots. Here in the city there is mostly passenger traffic so I find myself traveling over to New Jersey to do my own railfanning.

    Happy railroading!

Let me join in welcoming you to Trainboard. I'm an old guy but grew up in NY state. The famous photographer for the NY Central, Ed Nowak, loved to photograph that line on the east shore of the Hudson River at several locations, Peekskill, Bear Mountain Bridge, tunnels at Cold Spring. I'm sure it wouldn't be nearly as exciting now, but still photogenic. Take a look at my site at the link below for one at Peekskill back in the days of steam. :D I don't know what's left of the tracks of the old B&A but that was also scenic.

    Fitz,
Good selection. I haven't been up near Bear Mountain in a while. I wonder if they still take kindly to photographers over there. There are a lot of scenic points along Route 9w that offers nice views of the Hudson line though and many of them on public places.
