The lads on the Union Pacific and Espee forums helped me out a mystery location the other day but I need your help with this spot, The picture was taken in 1994 and is in the North West possibly in Oregon. There is an elevated freeway behind the train and obviously its BN territory with Montana Rail Link power mixed in. Trouble is, 17 years later, I can't remember where it is, any thoughts? The canopy framing is quite distinctive cheers KEV
The second picture has two signs on the road above the last locomotive. Can you tell what they say? The green one looks to have two Interstate signs on it, and it would help in identifying the location.
The blue sign mounted on the pole, looks like it might say, "TO 90 (I-90)" If the green sign is giving directions to two Interstates, it could be I-5 and I-90 which intersect near King Street Station in Seattle. I'm totally unfamiliar with the area so this is only a WAG.
I cannot think of any place else it the Pacific NW as a possibility, except Seattle. But it looks very different now, with the two sports stadiums built, the old KingDome gone, etc. The street above would have to be the old Dearborn Way (later just Fifth Avenue South) viaduct. And through the pillars would be the ex-UP/Milw Union Station. That stop light would be placed in the right area for the turn which used to take people east onto I-90. The King Dome would be behind your right shoulder, the KSS building to your left. Ahead of the lead engine would be the Royal Brougham street crossing, then passing by the former coach yard area. BTW- Things are fenced now so that such a view doesn't happen. Boxcab E50 Native Washtanan :tb-biggrin:
I'd got Seattle in the back of my mind when I asked the question but comparing my pictures to ones on railpictures.net I could not find a match. However if the area has changed so much since I was there it probably explains it. I'm coming over to see the folks this year but I doubt I'll get that far north this time. Main priority is to get to Dunsmuir and Cantara loop before I start the new 'Shasta' layout thanks for your help KEV
Correct! But it's changed alot now since it's been remodeled and the station platform looks different now.
