I grew up with trains with my dad, then had them with my son and now my grandson. Now I'm almost retired (working in the offshore oil and gas industry) and on my way to building a railroad in "N" scale due to the limited space I have. I love to watch trains, listen to them at night and photograph them, my wife says I have trains on my brain. I look forward to participating in the forums and benefiting from the knowledge available here. Lloyd
Hi Lloyd- Welcome to TrainBoard! I am looking at your attached photo. Not recognizing it right now. Can you tell me a little about it? Is this N&W 2156?
Hi Lloyd, welcome from a "neighbor", glad to have you on board. I also don't recognize the 2-8-8-4, though the firebox looks like it might have been designed to burn anthracite (hard) coal. Was she a coal hauler for an eastern road like Western Maryland, Virginian, or Norfolk & Western?
The 2-8-8-4 is in Duluth and Minneapolis Minnesota, it ran on the "Duluth Missabe & Iron Range" line hauling Taconite to the loading docks in Minneapolis. We were up there in Duluth last week and visited the train museum.
Wecome aboard, Lloyd. That certainly is an impressive beast (must be even more so in person) and I think all of us have gotten the "trains on the brain" label!
Welcome to Trainboard, Lloyd. I share your interest in steam, and those DM&IR 2-8-8-4s were really impressive locomotives. Would love to see one brought back to life.
