Thanks for letting me join the group. I'm a retired mechanic and miner and due to recent back surgery, I've started playing with models. I don't have much space for a layout, but I wanted to get into G Scale trains so my grandkids can play with them. I've been working on the toy trains and attempting to make them into somewhat realistic models. I'm learning weathering now. I hope to be able to make some nice models from the toys. Also, there are scratch built buildings and bridges and a crane under construction. Here's my first locomotive. I chopped the cab roof and raised it to allow a Bachmann engineer to fit properly. The boiler backhead was moved forward to allow an open cab too. I had fun doing it. Looks like I need to wait a couple of days so I can post links to the engine.
Thanks guys! It looks like the rules will allow me to post more pics tomorrow. I'll also start a thread on my little bunkhouse that the lumber company guys are building. They are tired of sleeping in a cigar box!
Hi NevadaBlue, Welcome to the train board, very glad to have modeler with your excellent skills on board. I like your imagination.
Let's see if I can post a link... Ha! That worked. There's the test fit of the engineer before putting on the bigger cab. I raised the roof with wood because that's what I had. Tiny drops of glue made some sort-of rivits. Here's the finished thing... well done for now. I have another of this loco and am experimenting with weathering the finish.
