Hi, I joint the forum a few days ago, but I started it using today and want to introduce myself shortly. Hello to everyone . I guess I am not a typical model railroad builder. I am more into the electronic issus related to model trains. We have here a team of a few people running a public LGB track G in a Pub (at a former railway station), that collect donations for charity. The train has a live camera transfered to a TV in the pub and is running with light and sound, but so far it is operated with analog DC. I am trying to make that a bit more attractive by adding a bit more functionality including interactive functions using DCC++EX and a digital loc decoder. I have the basic setup running including automatically start, stop, signals and some noise and lights on my test track at home.
Hello Michael, welcome. That is a nice application with the pub's train. I wish you well with adding your desired functions. Unfortunately, I cannot help you. I am a DC Dinosaur who would not know where to start with DCC++EX. If possible, please share photos of the former train station, now pub, and its train. Thanks.
Welcome to Trainboard. Wow, sounds like my kind of place, an old railway station with beer and model trains.
of course, I can provide a few links .....just in case you ever manage to come close to Aachen ....dont miss the opportunity. https://www.facebook.com/Bahnhofsvision-1407855909434521/ ....scroll down a bit to see a few photos https://www.bahnhofsvision.de/ ....Pub's Homepage ...... currently closed due to Corona :-(. The sponsors of course add to the donations for charity: https://www.aixfoam.de/view/bahnhofsvision https://www.aachener-zeitung.de/lokales/aachen/die-eisenbahn-kreist-in-luftiger-hoehe_aid-45655837 Unfortunatly everything only in German language ......
Thank you for the links. Do not worry about German language, The Trainboard site translates it all to English. The menus appear delicious. I wish I could be closer to Aachen to enjoy daily. I am surprised to see the train overhead. I had imagined that it would traverse the bar and tables so patrons would add money as it passed.
That was discussed extensively, but we where afraid of all the maintenance work ......beer, food, soft drinks ....and rails and trains mixed together is kind of not a perfect combination. And for some reason no one was prepared to sit there every evening for cleaning . So ...you have to insert a coin and then it goes one round over heads .... Hey ..... yes ... nice town in the heart of Europe. And hey ..... I have here also my first technical issue I would like to discuss : https://www.trainboard.com/highball...-trottle-and-locdeocder-how-to-allign.136845/
by the way .... I am not very enthusiastic about DCC (which was new to me 1-2 month ago as well). I just need it to control some functions in the Loc .... and for this it is nearly the only option. And very likely it is a great help to manage complex model railroads .... . But if you ever want to start with it then use DCC++EX and JRMI ....amazing what quality and features are possible for little money.
Hi Michael and welcome! In the grand scheme of things I'm not that far from you, just down in Geneva, Switzerland. I'm fairly new to DCC++ as well. Big learning curve as I have very little programming experience but slowly getting there. The idea you have for the pub train is an interesting one and I am keen to follow its progress. I've often toyed with the idea of mounting a webcam to a train and then having some form of webthrottle so people can log in and drive it around the layout. So far its just been an idea floating around my brain but your efforts might just be the kick start I need to explore it further!
