Either Guilfords bought new power or they're testing some. Saw a train on the road headed by NS diesel #9302 (or something similar). As usual I didn't have my camera. There were 2 units on train and 1 NS and 1 guilford engine on a passing train. From what I read 9302 is a dash 9 with broken stripes and only has the horse logo on front due to engine compartment fire. Though it looked it complete NS paint. I also noticed these diesels have been around alot lately.

Could be borrowed for testing. Could be? Hope you can grab us a few photos. Maybe learn what's happening!

    Pan Am updates

They are also upgrading to Pan Am colors. I've seen a few with the blue white scheme.

    NS rides the guilford way

Looks like NS actually has tracking and hauling right over the Pan Am straight up to waterville Maine. For a couple months now traffic has been increasing and now I know why.

Guilford is the same as that guy in your neighborhood who buys 20 year old rusted pick up trucks. They have bought a lot of old NS stuff in the past and it is almost always in bad shape. I still remember seeing those ex Santa Fe SD26's in Concord NH fresh from a trip to the Bow power plant. They were in rough shape but as a New Englander it was cool to see the Santa Fe.

Yeah a guy at a hobby shop was sayin' that. He said they run 4 or 5 engines because one always breaks down. Speaking of that I did notice they were looking for people to work on their engines. The qualifications are being able to GP-40 blueprints plus...

What is really sad is that B&M bought brand new GP40-2's in 1978 - 79, Guilford later traded them for a bunch of broken down ex Southern SD35's from NS later in the late 80's - early 90's.

Lots of rumors flying about a new or re-negotiated relationship between NS and Guilford/B&M/PanAm/flavor-of-the-month-northeastern railroad. There's been a lot of almost new NS power at Mohawk Yard in Schenechtady lately. Looks weird to have black widecabs leading rusty 4 axles. Keep your ear to the ground...something's up.

Does the traffic terminate in Waterville, or move beyond? Such as Canada...

    Norflok to Guilford

NS only has trackadge to Waterville. Guilford goes on for a ways I think.

OK. I as just trying to guess where that NS traffic was headed. Industries in the Waterville vicinity? Or on to destinations in Canada?

What Guilford customers are in the Waterville area?

I've seen Canadian National power on the NS haulage trains on CP in Oneonta, NY. With all CN or subsidiaries freight cars in the consist. I assume it is run-through.

Seems to me this is a good excuse for someone to do a bit of exploring this Spring.

The CN's you see in Oneonta now are on the NS 30/31T (CP 930/931 symbols)Canadian National run-throughs from Montreal to Enola. They were exclusively CN units for a long time but most now have all NS power or a mixed bag of NS and CN. No New England stuff in those, just stops for crew changes.
