    Hey all,

Just checking in. I'm 26 and have been a model railroader for most of those years.
Primarily HO and N, but also a smattering of G and my mom's old American Flyer set.

I just moved 2500 and am in a very small apartment, so I don't have a layout right now.
I used to live in the near west subs of chicago, right on the C&NW west line couple miles east of Proviso. Now I'm in Oregon, so big scenery switch.

I'm pretty much a freelance kind of guy. My plans in HO which is all armchair at the moment is a 3rd modern US Western route that sort of stumbles into the trackage. (I don't have a full history yet) I don't have the space for that, so I'm kinda concentrating on the N scale right now which is going to be loosly based on the Mt Hood RR (basically with much much more freight traffic.

Welcome aboard Trainboy! We are happy to have you join in. I built several kits while holed up with no layout space. My planning slipped into writing down my thoughts in a thick binder every evening for several years. When it looked like "Layout time" was going to happen, I had it all planned out! Now I'm building it in HO. Tell us about it as you go along. Maybe you come up with something we haven't thought about, and can learn something new. I'm always willing to learn :D

Who's Hugh? Is his family as strange as the rest of us?

Anyway, welcome aboard Trainboy! Maybe in a little you'll see the error of your ways and get rid of those Horribly Oversized trains, but I'm sure that either way you'll find lots of good stuff here.

    Welcome aboard!

Don't worry about not having space for a layout - it's not the end of the world - like watash said - start a notebook and keep track of your ideas. If you can decide and a scale and era - then you can start the other cool part of the model RR hobby - COLLECTING! If you have an era and scale picked out, then you can control the collecting instinct (it is an instinct isn't it?) with a few simple words - 'It does not fit' - and remember, the flip side of this - 'I NEED one of those!'

There are a few of us here in the same boat. gats and I are without layouts and without space but are having fun building a fleet and detailing as we go. (he's in N, I'm in HO - both Soo Line)

Welcome to Trainboard it is a pleasure seeing new members post for the first time. You will find lots of forums that can help you in your modelling not to forget the prototype forums that are a wealth of information.

For layout design advice the layout discussion forum is a must. For any modelling advice I suggest The Inspection Pit.

Once again welcome to Trainboard and I look forward to seeing you participate here.

    Welcome Trainboy,
I myself have a similar situation.
I started back into model RR in 2000, in Jan.
I had a small John Deere set and transformer.
I set this up w/Bachmann EZ track on a 4x6 table made of plywood and 2 sawhorses and have used this for 2 yrs now.
I am getting the table built for my new layout, which will be a 6x8.
Since entering into the hobby I have collected over 260 pieces of rolling stock and 50+ locos and various vehicles, semi trailers, containers for the layout being built now.
I do like variety so that is why I run steam, passenger cars, diesels, and mainly freight w/an emphasis on intermodal and grain.
I model the St. Louis-Southwestern (Cotton Belt) line, but have motive power from UP,MP, Southern,SP, CR,Frisco, NY Central, and ATSF.
    Mainly Central & Western lines.
So like me you may not have the "dream" layout but you can collect till you build it.
Good luck and much happiness in the model rr hobby.

I might as well get in on the introductions as well. I'm 26 and grew up near the Conrail Enola yard in PA. I currently live in NW Indiana. Having grown up around trains and having been a avid model railroader in my youth I am looking forward to getting back int he swing of things. I had a 8 year break from trains while I was in the Army but now as a civilian again I'm ready to get back to my "roots". Up until this point I have been a devout Lionel collecter. I have my own train as well as my Great-Grandfathers, Grandfathers, and Fathers Lionel trains as well. Recently I have been interested in G scale. My first "new" layout will be in G scale. I look forward to chatting with you all in the future.
