The more of those old coaling tower photos I see the more I think they are sort of cathedrals to remind us of the days when steam ran all day, all night, north, south, east, west and only stopped for passengers, freight pickup, coal or water. That photo is a beauty, Roger. Thanks.
Jim, "cathedral" is an appropriate description. Even though I saw more than a few coaling towers on a number of railroads including the Central before steam disappeared, I forgot how massive they could be. And Roger's example is a "mere" two track facility.
