Got my NCE Powercab today! This thing is awesome! Who says we can't make quality products in the USA anymore? Disclaimer: This post is not intended to cause any riots.
As a new owner myself, I have to agree. I've tried several other DCC brands, and they're all good, but for my money the NCE PowerCab was, and is, a prime choice.
I have found my "PowerCab" very intuitive and simple to operate...........I've even messed it up bad enough I had to search through the manual for "factory reset", and it worked great. Couldn't be more happy!! Had experience, (and frustration) with the "other major brand".......gave up, went to "PowerCab", never looked back!!
Congrats on you new PowerCab. Good friends and modelers I respect use NCE and love it. I, however, love "the Major Brand" and am totally happy with it. Can't go wrong with either of 'em! Have fun! Cheers! Bob Gilmore
I too switched from Dt to NCE. Not only is the unit user friendly but when you contact NCE by phone the people who answer are also "user" friendly and can answer your questions regarding their product. Not my experience with the competitor. Carl
Nope, I don't mean Lenz. Digitrax is what I like. Fits in my hand well, didn't have problems deciphering the instruction manuals at all. The radio works great at both home and at the shows, and most of my friends have Digitrax throttles when they show up at the shows to run their trains. My NCE and Lenz friends can borrow my spare throttles if they want to run on my sectional layout. My Rail Lynx buddy just runs his engines with his own throttle and infrared control. We all get along, and we don't badmouth each others' DCC systems. I have never had a bad experience with learning to use my powerful Digitrax Super Chief Radio system, and every difficulty I've had, was due to my lack of DCC experience when I was starting out...not because of any inherent design flaw in my system. I have also never had a problem with anybody at Digitrax being able to answer any of my questions, and neither have I ever had a complaint about their friendliness. I have never had an equipment failure in the three and a half years I've had Digitrax, and that includes every Digitrax decoder I've installed too. I have run trains on one of my friends Milwaukee Road layout using his NCE Radio system, and it was handy, nicely built, but it didn't fit my hand well, and the controls did not seem as instinctive nor as tactile as my Digitrax throttles. Maybe it's just because I'm used to my throttles. However, as I said before, you really can't go wrong with either Digitrax, NCE or Lenz, and I will not badmouth any of them. Cheers! Bob Gilmore
Kudos to NCE on a product I can understand how to use. I just love the menus that guide you through so many tasks. I only plan to expand my NCE system to the full blown 5 amp Procab with the radio feature that works quite well. This thread seems to have been started to share great feelings for NCE so I will not share my feelings for any of the other great systems.
I also like the Powercab because it so user friendly. I contacted NCE last week because I was not sure if I had the latest EEPROM for my unit which I have had for a few years and found out a new EEPROM V1.65 will be out in a few weeks.
I have been happy with my power cab and cab06. I have a small n scale layout (T-TRAK) and it keeps me happy. I also have the usb interface and have used JMRI to program the decoders and use w-throttle with the iPhone. I was thinking of upgrading, but the power cab seems to do what I need at the moment. I found the power cab and cab06 are easy to use, especially for a newbie at DCC. Cheers
I don't currently own a DCC system, but I have operated several layouts. I will be buying an NCE PowerCab in the future. Glad to see the positive comments on that system.
