A little help here...I have a new Bachmann PRR K4 with Soundtraxx Economi Sound Value decoder factory installed. No matter that CVs I alter, I get a side rod clank instead of a chuff when underway. Forwards, reverse, fast, slow... makes no difference. Clank instead of chuff. The clank IS synchronized with speed. The truly weird thing is that sometimes on start up, I WILL actually get the chuff, and as long as I do not shut the engine down, it remains. That is rare, however. Is there some CV I am missing? I've combed the Tsunami2 manual with no luck.
Any help avoiding a trip to the asylum would be appreciated!

Dumb suggestion but did you try a factory reset?

Not a dumb question at all (first question for electronic or appliance issues: 'Is it plugged in?"). But, yes, did that. Same results.

When you alter decoder register contents (any register), you are able to consistently confirm the register changes by reading them back?

What command station (CS) are you using to read/program/run the loco?

Do you have other locos that you can program with the same CS, and they respond correctly? Any other locos with the same decoder?

If the loco is covered under warranty, and there's nothing wrong with your CS, I'd send the loco back for service. Since it is under warranty, I would want to mess around too much with it, and chance voiding the warranty.

I am beginning to think the decoder is defective. Since I've only had it a week, it's still under warranty. So, back it goes.
Thanks to all for help and suggestions.
