As time passed, there were three different depots at Lennep. The first two both burned down. The last two were both Standard Class D designs. Could this be what you saw? Although I believe the last one was long before moved away. A depot sign? Not yet stolen???? That's a surprise! Boxcab E50
Not to worry. When you are employed by Uncle Sam's Air Force you are allowed to tour many exotic locations around the globe. I understand they have many cool trains where he is going. So I am betting we will continue to see a lot of fine photos of trains from Hemi during the next few years.
Martinsdale's depot sign was still intact on the depot, and the sign from the other end was on the local community center. Talk about ghost towns--you cannot even buy gas at these towns! Lennep's depot sign was affixed to a local town building of some sort. Pics later!
I sure do love this thread! Thanks Hemi! It does make me homesick for Montana, however. The only thing that could make this better would be if the Milwaukee was still running.
God Bless you hemi and many many thanks. I can name that spot indeed! Saw that signal from the road. hope to be back there in 2 weeks.
Back to August's tour! A large bell (CRS which engine it was from), and E73's numberboard: A better view of the bell, and more historic photos: More photos--Butte, Avery and others are represented:
One can clearly see the NP tunnel, but MILW Bearmouth Tunnel 16 is harder to find. Only by following the cut along the NP/MRL ROW, can one see a portion of the MILW tunnel portal. Here's some sort of concrete foundation near Tunnel 16's east portal. I dunno if it's NP or MILW: Here's the east portal of Tunnel 16: We hiked Tunnel 15--stay tuned for pics and a surprise!!
Here's a bridge just east of Tunnel 15: The westernmost section has been removed: I cannot imagine this being anything but MILW rail: And another section of rail:
Tunnel 15's east portal: West portal of the same: Outside the tunnel 15 is a real surprise, but you'll have to wait for that one! Stay tuned!
Not quite, but much better, actually. A signal foundation near the tunnel: Much better indeed! Trolley apparatus, and poles! Too cool!
That third picture- A while back we talked about this: The small rusty rectangle you can see hanging on the cable should be an air gap sign. Boxcab E50
