Hint #2 Your right, I left it there to see if it might take some of you off in the wrong direction... Fresh Water
Well it worked! :tb-tongue: I did find a couple of places that have put causeways across the ocean coast as well. Guess they just don't care about storms? So. All the other challenges have been solved Leaving just this one for me to work with But I need my fix! Or, I could paint my backdrop and vacate the (layout+computer) room while the paint dries. Hmmm...
What's -74 degrees though? You mean the tracks are parallel to that heading? (hmm. I have blue paint on my hands for some reason. weird.) Must go update other threads, then I can worry about google earth :tb-tongue:
Well, I didn't find it looking at locations on the 74 E or 74 W meridians, and there's virtually no rail at 74 N and none at 74 S (didn't think so.)
Usually the term "Heading" means the compass direction to travel, as in ships and airplanes. So, if you assume a starting point of 0 Lat, 0 Long, then take a heading of -74 degrees, or an angle of 16 degrees North of due West from that point, you should cross over the contest area somewhere along the way before you recross the Equator at 180 degrees, i.e. at the International Dateline. Now, I could be totally wrong in my assumption because it has been many, many years since I have had to use Spatial Geometry. So, Darren, if I'm wrong, please correct me before too many folks waste time.....thanks.
I'm really good at geometry in the more mathematical sense, but I get kind of turned around on some of these applications. Can we discuss this in radians?
45°53'20.11"N 119°41'41.18"W I don't know how I missed it so many times! On the Columbia River BNSF side.
Well I'll be darned, I did remember just a little from that class.....:tb-cool: Well done Scott......
I checked the north side of the Columbia last week and missed it. I even mentioned having checked the Columbia. Jiminy Crickets!
Yeah! Your comments are what delayed me. When you said you looked there, I kinda wrote it off. (Even though I thought it looked like the Gorge area to me)o2pz:
WINNER!!!!!!! Congratulations! Scott Stutzman Columbia River (Washington) Across from Boardman, OR Location submitted by Stourbridge Lion
Aah, I was right; and -74° was the amount to rotate the picture by to find north. Good thing The Gimp has such an easy rotate. Of course, since I wasn't looking anywhere near America, let alone Washington state, I would never have found it. Good spotting. Now, Mr Darren, why would the next clue have given it away? I've zoomed out more on Google Earth, and all I see are little round fields, which makes me think Kansas. Post the next clue and see how many people reckon they would have found it had that one been given
Big Wide River with Crop Circles should have given it away to both SteamDonkey74 and Scott Stutzman since they both live in Oregon. Basically, I drop this one in right on their backdoor and when Adam missed it and his post saying it wasn't on the Columbia River got Scott off track too I wanted to hide the rest of the image from them both to keep them off track as long as possible. I had them both snake bit and they didn't catch it for about 4.5 days. You never know when I might drop one on your backdoor too... :tb-tongue: :tb-tongue:
