MDF isn't like particle board I have used. MDF is made of much finer fibres. It cuts like a dream as there is no grain. It sands easily. It stays flat without warping. It is not as strong as plywood. As an example, I tested a 1/2 inch thick MDF board against the same size piece of plywood. I placed them so there ends were on bricks then stood on them. The MDF board broke while the plywood bent but did not break. MDF has its uses but I don't use it where strength is required. I also soaked a piece of MDF and it did not absorb water like paricle board does. Hope this helps.
