Hi Group, I just would like to say how impressive the members are on this forum, I wont mention any names in case I embarrass anyone as I am sure they know who they are. In the past when I first started my layout someone from the USA sent me some locomotives wagons and other equipment so that I could run some stock around what I had done for me to keep as a gift as was saving up funds. Then very recently someone else offered to get me a part and posted it to me from the USA to the UK. I would just like to thank them publicly and my hope is that at some point in my railroading career I will be able to do the same to someone else. The help and friendships found here are amazing thank you everyone. Colin
A little over 10 years ago, I got very sick. I also proved that death isn't terminal, 4 times. The people here showed compassion, & genuine friendship through my recovery. I am still recovering, but I'm closer to normalcy than not. The people here are wonderful. They have helped recover by taking my mind away from what I was going through & focus on trains. A nice little vacation from reality. Something I'll never forget.
I second Mike's comment. The Train Board comprises a warm family who encourage flights into the imaginary world of railroad modeling. They actually drag us into achieving far better work than we thought we were capable. Thanks to all.
It's very nice to see posts like this. Makes me feel good to have been a part of the Trainboard "family" for 15 years. Keep being kind to one another.
I've been a proud member of Trainboard for over 14 years now. In that time I have had four careers, moved a total of six times, five Jeeps, two houses, divorced once, gone through many dark times and countless good times and through it all have had some great friends here on TB. I've meet a lot of my fellow TB members in person, operated on their layouts, gone railfaning with them or just met up with them at shows and have always counted myself fortunate for knowing them all. I certainly believe we are a great community. I can say based on personal experience, a much tighter community (and friendlier) than the RC Airplane community I had been a part of for two of those four careers.
I forgot who it was but when I showed my preliminary track plan to the Trainboard about 6 years ago, someone took the plans and suggested some significant changes. These suggestions were very benificial and I incorporated the changes into my design. I would like to thank that person and the rest of the Trainboard crew.
Most of my life has been spent in helping folks where I can reasonably do such. And it is a nice feeling to have at the end of a otherwise crappy day to know that at least you did something to help out someone with no strings attached. My only request has been that they do the same when the opportunity comes their way to make a little difference. It is nice to be amongst a group of folks here who often practice the same philosophy.
The fun in life is helping someone else attain to being more then they thought possible of themselves. I've seen kids catch on to model railroading and watched grades improve at school and to see them eventually turnout to be engineering types. Succeeding in life. You could almost call it a miracle of sorts. However, there is a downside. You can check out Rick's Lament and Lessons Learned. http://www.barstowrick.com/ricks-lament-lessons-learned/ If you dare! I've been the benefactor of other's kindness and help. Almost floored when it happens. After I pick myself up off the floor, dust off the cat hair. I consider myself to be the luckiest person alive. To have helped other's it's true what goes around comes around. I think what our friend Mike, aka Secret Weapon said, sums it up nicely. Thanks guys and gals for being here on TrainBoard.com.
I haven't been here long but not too long ago a fellow modeler sent me a boost for my SP&S fleet, I hope to do the same someday soon for another.
I too have been the recipient of the generosity of others here. Whether it be 'gifts' of much needed train stuff...or all the FREE advise, comments, suggestions etc.. Great bunch of guys...and gals...here
Our goal here at Trainboard is to create a friendly atmosphere where folks can drop in and help each other, trade information, chat with each other and just "network" in general. There are a few forums where I visit occasionally, that are dedicated other pursuits of mine, where I tend not to participate much as there are those who go out of their way to be unfriendly. Thanks to all of you here who make our work easier by helping each other out.
I have to agree, there has been a lot of help on this board. It is much nicer than others and like a family, there are a few spats here and there, they never get as venomous as the Atlas forum did. A good team of staff members does a nice job of that. Then there is J & J and their awesome layouts to motivate us and share their techniques. It is always a nice way to forget about the things that bothering you for a while.....
