I get excited about seeing a vintage locomotive...but...check this out: http://now.msn.com/excited-train-guy-reacts-to-seeing-a-vintage-train-engine A Rails definition of a foamer caught in action...verbally.
Way to much time alone. Too funny that you posted this Rick as I just sent it to a group mailbox for a good scare.
LOL, Yep, it is that.... too funny. Shut up already I would like to hear the horn. Yeah, this flashed up on my MSN news bulletin and I had to share it. I was sure others had caught it but what the heck. LOL
WOW. I did LOLz and ended up almost spitting this mornings coffee listening to this guys dialog. Stupid MSM's editorial teaser text however was typical of the news style that is so prevalent now days. The author even said the engine was a 1953 EA, even though our excited friend screams out 1953 EMD E8. Then again, in the world of MSM, this does pass as news
Some non- railfan friends recently "razzed" me by posting a youtube link to a video that I think was taken by a teenager somewhere in the Chicago (I think) suburbs who went into absolute extacsy over UP 1988 (Rio Grande heritage) leading a rusty old vehicle train. This kid was going crazy for it, just non-stop excitement like the kind that should be saved for something more momentous...say, something involving a girl.
Well.........we DO have more than our share of "interesting personalities" in this hobby..........(lol)
This dude needs some female companionship. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.............:teeth:
"Aww that horn gives me the chills, but the chills have ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to do with how cold it is here. AH OOHH BUT THAT DOESN'T STOP A FOAMER!!" my favorite line :teeth:
I used to only hear about this stuff in the news until I volunteered at goosefest. Lemme tell ya, it runs through all age groups........
This is a good example why real RR'ers hate foamers. I don't often watch trains, But when I do, I stay away from foamers!:teeth:
Foamer: an acronym for Far Out and Absolutely Mental about Everything Railroading ......although I will admit, that IS a good catch on those two vintage engines.
I was thinking that this might make for a real good SNL skit...............:teeth: Some Politician standing by the track side going off like some bumbling idiot. Jus sayin:teeth:
I know quite a few real railroaders who are also foamers. How do you separate the railroaders from the non-railroaders?
There's more to this than appears. The 'excited train guy' on the S&NC is actually someone (that I know) IMITATING that UP auto train video in the context of the S&NC as a gag. He has the UP video in his 'favorites' list. It's a dead imitation of the UP DRGW heritage reaction, right down to the wording, in the context of 'his' railroad. I think this is a joke video grown completely out of control at this point that MSN has picked it up, and it's hard to say what may happen because of it. Literally, it is a joke. And he's a professional railroader. If you listen to 'excited train guy' knowing this little inside joke, it's an entirely different meaning. And this is a reminder that the video you post may have incredibly unintended consequences!
