    Hello everyone:
I tried to get this started on the
acl/SAL HS Q&A forum but never got much response. It would be great if SAL fans who
are modeling Florida could get together and
trade info and suggestions. I live in North
Florida and plan to model either the Brooksville sub.,Wannee sub. or Baldwin sub.
My era is the late 1940's to early 1950's.
    So let's talk!!!!!!

Rich, I would love to get together with modelers who have a similiar interest. However, I am not in Florida, I am in Ohio. Perpahs one of these days I will make it down your way. In case you have not noticed, I am posting to the acl & SAL H.S. Q&A forum. I know that this just has to irk Goolsby, Riccio and crew. Tough.

Here's a trivia question for you:
How did a spot along the ACL in northern Gainesville come to be shown on maps as 'TEENJAY' ?

I have no idea. How did it become known as
    TEENJAY?
And here's some trivia for you...Where was the "Peggy Line" in North Florida? It was
    part of SAL.

It suddenly dawned on me one day when I was reading about the history of Gainesville's 3rd railroad, the Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Gulf. The JG&G ran from Sampson City where the ACL's predecessor crossed the Georgia Southern & Florida (this junction promised to be the start of a major town, but today it just a few trailers a bit west of Hampton/south of Starke) on a bee-line toward Gainesville, then on around the west side of Paynes Prarie to Micanopy and on down to around Irvine. Today's alignment of North Main street (where it angles about 30 deg. off of due North from NW 16 ave to past 23rd avenue) is due to the routing of the JG&G north out of town.

The JG&G was at one time known as the Tampa & Jacksonville. The T&J acronym yielded the map location "Tee'n'Jay" ! . Teenjay must have been about 100-200 yards North of the Burger King on 16th Ave just east of Main.

The ACL used to come due south through the area of the Kopper on 23rd Ave then progressed right down Main Street down to Depot avenue.

The JG&G/T&J angled down from Sampson City, crossed the ACL at TeenJay and went a few hundred feet further before turning south and heading behind the present Gainesville Shopping center and on to the 6th street station.

There was an interchange track at Teenjay.

The JG&G was bought up by the SAL and was pulled up outside of Gainesville by 1943 or so. The ACL bought the track through town and removed the track down the middle of main street, and built the passenger station on 6th street.

I would love to find pictures of the ACL station on Main Street and the original JG&G facilities on 6th street, as well as other Gainesville locations -- if you ever happen upon any.

If you go 50 feet out into the woods to the east of Main after Main turns North again above 23rd avenue you can still find the sizable railbed embankment of the JG&G (with about 70 years of trees growing on it).

The Peggy Line was the Seaboard's Wannee
subdivision. The line extended west from Starke,FL to Wannee on the the Suwannee River. However, during the depression the line was abandoned from Bell, Fl to Wannee.
the subdivision apparently kept the original
name. The story goes that the train serving
the sub. was nicknamed "Peggy" after a local
saying. A lazy man was said to be too lazy to catch Peggy. Since the train was usually
slow and late it was nicknamed "Peggy" too.
My wife's great-uncle was the Seaboard freight agent in Starke,FL. He told me about
"Peggy" One day I'm going to sit down and really talk to this man about the Seaboard.
I loved your info! This is the type of info I've been looking for about my area.
Do you know much about SAL's Brooksville
    subdivision? or Tallahassee sub.?
