Thanks. This has grown to be a little more than under the tree........ It's now a 4x8 table with a set of 6 foot folding tables on the right side and some bins in front for the low level and countless stacked boxes! My wife loves it but fixing a derailed car is a pain to get to.

The "snow" is the Woodland snow flake in the shaker and I have heard of both baking soda and corn starch. I was afraid the starch would yellow and the soda would get into the locos and make a mess of the internals.

Hemi..... Don't you have a wonderful snow layout? Any issues with maintenance or affects to the train?

Has anyone tried marble powder? Marble has a very granular texture and might give the sparkle you want for snow.

Have you tried making something out of smooth it then letting it dry then crumbling it into dust and gluing it on your layout?

Marble dust atop ballast worked great for me. I haven't tried other snow products. As far as fluffy snow, who's going to call it wrong? I've been all over the world and saw lots of snow and it sometimes looks different. Powdery snow can look different from dry dusty snow. Just my 2 cents, but I think it looks great.

    Marble dust doesn't yellow, BTW.
