Lets see some photo's of steam loco's with feedwater heaters. Here is a Southern 4-6-2 Pacific for starters:
Powersteamguy, if that Southern loco is a model, it's one of the finest I've seen. That's an Elesco (not sure which model) feedwater heater. This NY Central J-3 Hudson has a Worthington fw heater, the small rectangular structure forward of the stack. Actually there's a lot more to in, inside the smokebox. Unfortunately the pumps are over on the fireman's side. I'll find more. Photo from the collection of Harold K. Vollrath.
This has a Worthington "box" hiding up there behind the green flag for a first section on this GS-1. I kit bashed an old CC/Kato S-2.
JWidmar: Those loco's look great. What did you use to model the piping from the Elesco Feedheaters to the loco?
Nope. I still have to do that when I get a round TUIT. I think it was kind of an after thought on that engine. The feed water heater was rolling around in one of my parts boxes and the locomotive is purely ficticious. The engine was a basket case when I got it with a burned out motor and broken steps going down to the pilot.
When my friend painted up my two Kato Mikados for the Wilmington and New York Railway, he mounted Elescos on them a la the Central of New Jersey. If I can ever get the login to work from home you might get to see photos!
And by the way, to see more of Mr. Widmar's work, run do not walk to your LHS and pick up the May 2004 issue of Model Railroading (that's "ing" not "er"). The RGW is the much deserved cover story! I was very excited to show the family-- "I was there! I was there!"
PowerSteamGuy-1790, Thanks, the piping was from brass wire, I can't remember right off what size but you can get it from .006 of an inch up
