Wow, a loco with graffitis. Rather unusual!

Patch jobs are great! [IMG] But if you're talking pure UP, check out this link to my favorite type:

    Hey John,

You and I need to talk [IMG] . I've been looking for some UP roster shots for usage on my DHVM web site and I would be very greatful if I can use a few of yours if that is OK with you. These would be in the range of #1229-1248 today and/or in their previous UP roster numbers that where once D&H engines.

Darren, the only ones I can offer are any with either my name or Jeff Blacks name. All others the photographer will have to be contacted.

SD40-2s, eh? NOW we're talking! Put a set of four or five of these beasts on the front of a train, and stand back!

    Other favorites:
    </font>
    • the 6900 series Centennials- only EMD would have the knowhow to build a double-diesel locomotive that would work (sorry, GE and Alco), and only UP could have the space, foresight and brass to run 'em.</font>
    • the E9s- another double-diesel built by GM, an elegant touch to their "City"-series streamliners</font>
    • Alco's odd RSC2- my first exposure to UP at work was in the southern Wyoming town of Saratoga, watching one of these beasts bring the local into town on the Encampment Branch. It's main job was to switch the huge Crow Bros. lumber mill in Saratoga, and head back north to Walcott Jct., then west on the mainline to Rawlins. The caboose on this local would be anywhere in the train (except, of course, in front of the engine). The entire Encampment Branch would make great little model railroad in itself, BTW!</font>
    • the FEF-3 Northern, Challenger, and any Big Boy still surviving (closest one to me is the one in Dallas).</font>
    • And last but not least, the 8500 HP "Big Blow" gas turbine-electric built by GE. I've seen & heard these things literally roaring through Wyoming, with what looked like half the cars in the yard at Cheyenne or Ogden behind it.</font>
Everything else to me is sheet metal, paint, and noise by comparison

    Understood... [IMG]

Could you help me on these then? [IMG]

    (D&H#7612) UP#1231 - (C)PATRICK SCOTT--DUPO,IL--JAN. 21, 2004
    (D&H#7606) UP#1245 - (C)ED SCHECKLMAN--BUTLER,WI--SEPT. 27, 2003
    (D&H#7604) UP#2743 - (C)BRAD LOGAN--ELMHURST,IL--JULY 09, 1997

These 20 Units were initially built in 1976, sold 1984 to GTI and the resold again to UP in 1996. These engines have seen five (5) Paint schemes and/or roadnumbers so far so I truly want to get at least one photograph posted in each. :(

I'm with most of you others, the SD40-2 was the UP of the 80s. Once they seemed to be on every train, now try and find them in 3s and 4s on mainline trains. Oh well, at somepoint perhaps in 2030 we'll say the same about the SD-70s

Dont worry fellas. We have plenty of SD40-2s on the Roseville to Fresno drag freights. Sometimes up to four units plus tunnel motors to boot! [IMG]

These C40-8's are among my favorites right now. I love the way this unit has weathered. It might just be that I'm really wanting a few on my layout though. [IMG]

Red Rock, I like how you and Harold have trains come and pose in your backyards - with garden ornaments like that, who needs pink flamingos? :D :D

William my six year old was with me that afternoon, we were out looking for NS 4610, and I told him I wanted to make the home owner an offer. He thought it would be cool to lay in bed and watch trains go by. [IMG] Works for me, but the MRS. wouldn't go for it. [IMG]
