The Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway is my favorite shortline. You can always find some action here in Cedar Rapids with the CRANDIC. Whether pulling empties, pulling coal or ADM tankers with their MP15DC's and slugs, you can be sure that they will be running. They are now in their second century of serving Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Some of the industries that they serve, but not limited to are: ADM City Carton Weyerhauser Ralston Penford and more. Plus connections from the Union Pacific, Canadian National, Iowa Northern and the Iowa Interstate. :tb-nerd: Welcome to Trainboard! First FMRC diesels I ever saw were the 617 (Kiowa) and 620 (Caddo), both ex-Florida East Coast GP7s that wound up on the Kiamichi RR in late 1987. Much later, I was privileged to stop by Clinton, OK and shoot FMRC and GNBC power there, as well as the former Frisco-Rock Island crossing northeast of town. All I can say is, if you don't like first-generation Geeps, stay away from this railroad! Seriously, that's a nice operation. And these days with the wheat harvest, they're real busy.
BTW, I'm sure you're aware of this website - got some nice info on this line. And I agree- we'd love to see pics as you progress in your construction.
Hi there My name is Jun Kazama live in Tokyo Japan. I'm not familiar to real railroad in USA, but I've been interested in US Rail. Because my first loco was F7 She is over 50years, had AC motor, can't move any more today As for me, Gorre and Daphetid RR by John Allen is the best short line:tb-wink: Today I planed to make a Layout again with HO, using these tiny locos. Tow Little River Lumber CO. 2-4-4-2 are made in Japan, one Deep River Logging CO. 2-4-4-2 is made in Korea (Importer was Power House). They are very old, so I now to start changing their mototrs. Regards, Jun
Shortlines Jun: Welcome to Trainboard Shortlines as implied are short usually less than fifty miles. For those with no room for a big layout a shortline is great to model. No a lot of locomotives to buy either. Most shortlines have only a couple of locomotives. The City of Prineville Ry. is only 18 miles long and has three locomotives. The Peninsula Terminal is only two miles and has two locomotives. My favourite was/is the late Oregon Pacific & Eastern. Only 20 miles long it had class and unique character. The roadbed is all that is left and that is now a bike-hike trail.
HI Jun, and welcome to our fine website! Nice models you have depicted here. Is that old F-7 an HO gauge unit? And, what about that beautiful Unitah Railway locomotive. What scale is it?
Welcome aboard Jun and Macjet! Always good to hear about operations I'm not familiar with. Jun, your steamers are neat!
I'll post updates. I'm always looking for feedback. Here is the track plan for the current section being built.
Thank you for your welcome,Mr.SP. As you know, we Japanese are living in small houses, so there are no room for the layout. Penisula Terminal would be a good model for me. Regards, Jun
Thank you for your welcome, Bill. My old F-7 is HO gauge and Uintah Ry 2-6-6-2 is G gauge by LGB. Truely to say, I have not seen she moving yet:tb-shocked: She is too big for my home. Regards, Jun
Favorite shortline is Maryland and Pennsylvania, by far. I was born on that railroad, father was a brakeman, uncle was an engineer. Took my first steam engine cab ride at the age of six weeks. Modeling another favorite - Clinchfield, in HO, although I'm freelancing and calling mine the Clinch Valley.
My 2 favorite short lines are the Central California Traction Co. & Sierra Railway. Unfortunetly in Z-scale there are no S-12 to be had.
Does the Wheeling and Lake Erie count as a short line? If so, that's my favorite. Otherwise, I'd say the Ashland Railway or the Northern Ohio and Western Railway....though I don't know a whole lot about either one since I only recently learned of their existence
