Hey all, I was just sitting down to run some of my loco's on my modular track and thought it might be fun to see if anyone had a favorite locomotive that they run. Mine is an older Atlas GP-7 with the red/white color scheme. I bought it on ebay a few years back for $30. Hoping there wasn't something wrong with it I placed it on my track and the thing ran just like brand new. No noises, no hesitation, nothing wrong. Today I still am looking for the other road number to match with it, but whenever I see it on ebay, somebody is usually asking $70 and I can't bring myself to buy it. Let me know what your favorite is!
My favorite loco always seems to be my latest detail or kitbash project. That said, what you mentioned about getting something on-the-cheap that you can then get running nicely is always high on the list of favorites.
A pair of Reading GP-35s bought in the early '90s, sold by Atlas, but built by Kato. I run DC and these run as smooth as glass and look great. This is one of my units, as seen in TroveStar.
My favourite locomotive is an f45 Resin kit that was manufactured by Grant Eastman . It was my first successful Resin kit build .I painted it in Burlington Northern colours and and powered it with a kato sd45 mechanism . I liked the kit so much that I bought another one . I never did get a chance to finish the second one as Athearn brought out their F45s and sold them for a lot cheaper than what I could get a kato mechanism for .
Since I'm not a model railroader, maybe I shouldn't put a reply in this thread. Perhaps someone could put up a thread about their favorite prototypical locomotives. My dream locomotive is Great Northern 400, AKA Hustle Muscle, the first production SD45. I don't really know why that particular locomotive, other than I just like its looks. I also like Milwaukee Road E70.
Even though I don't really run it that much anymore, I would have to say my favorite loco is my original Atlas E8 I bought in November of 1967. I marvel that it still runs smoothly. It's the first N scale loco I ever bought. I had Treble-O-Lectric before that but it's 152/1. OK, my Treble-O-Lectric F7 is tied with the E8 as it was my very first nine mm gauge loco. Doug
ladybngnfan, I’m glad to see that you are staying with us. It’s always exciting to read about an other’s passion for this hobby. I’m with you on the Hustle Muscle. One of these days I’m going to paint one and dozens of others on the day dream list. My favorite loco is the GP-30. WP ordered some but got 35’s instead.
One of 6 Atlas GP 9's in B&O (3) and C&O (3) which I custom painted and decaled back before Atlas released them already painted for C&O and B&O. Also, my 4 Atlas GP-7's painted for the CA&S (my private road name). These are not DCC friendly versions. Run really great.
Gotta be the LL B&O 2-8-8-4 in steam, ALMOST any GP-30.......but with the Sunburst paint is the BEST.....
Any SP locomotive. Especially Black Widow covered wagons: Or -- Tigers: I have to many -- as all are my favorites!! --- LOL Thanks, Wolf
Oooo, I remember drooling over those in the glass case at the hobby shop. Couldn't quite afford the ticket as a young lad. Atlas made E7s in the latter '70s that I so wanted in C&NW to pull my Rapido bi-levels, but alas Atlas never offered the road name.
Hard choice for me but I can narrow it down to two locomotives, a AA consist of Kato E8's and an ABBA set of LifeLike FA/B1's. The E units have got to be the nicest looking diesel ever made and to me, far better looking than the PA. Yet the FA appeals to me more than the F7's.
Any SP locomotive...as long as it is in tiger stripes, black widow or daylight paint. Actual favorite is Atlas SD-7 with Sunrise lights and missing water tank. Got to see if I still have the picture...
