I was checking my yahoo mail this morning and saw this flash add. Anyone going to make decals for this? LOL http://www.trainweb.org/diez-mon/yahootrain.html
I never even notice their ads. Guess I've a built in mental "ignore them" ability. It's not a bad looking paint scheme. Boxcab E50
I kinda like that scheme as well. I sometimes wish makers would produce fantasy schemes like that. Most of them involve things like fallen flag schemes applied to modern locomotives.
The DRAGON Jet Snow Blower. Good idea John, here is one: This one is copyrighted by Rule281, and he gave me permission to post it here. This is what he says about it: "You can post the old 'Snow Dragon' if you want. It works by just blowing the snow off and melting the ice. Trouble is, sometimes it melts the snow into a puddle under the switches then it freezes and locks up the rods. I don't think they run it hard enough to push it with the thrust from the jet so a pony motor moves it around on the yard like any other track machine. I do know you don't want your car anywhere near it when it's working or you'll need a paint job because it throws rocks, dirt, ice chunks and anything else it can get ahold of. It's also extremely loud. Operators wear double ear protection even in the cab. Fun to watch though."
Of all the people in all the world who would have a photo of a rocket propelled snow plow it had to be you Watash John
Don't you know he could "Burn up the rails" (speed) if he gave her the gun? If he used it for a Speeder, he would sure have to look quick! I think they push it with an engine, or just run the jet on low speed, it is hot anyway.
The New York Central experimented using a jet engine as a snowplow in the third rail electric zones around New York City back in the 50's. Quickly dropped the idea after one fairly heavy snowfall, because..... - When the hot exhaust hit the snow, it immediately went from dry to wet becoming a blob instead of blowing away....OOPS#1! - It took too many locos because the jet was pushing backwards like mad against them....OOPS #2! - Finally, it took a massive amount of jet fuel to find out about OOPS #1 and OOPS #2....OOPS #3! mg: I would scan the photo, but it's in a copyrighted book....sorry. :embarassed:
Ya Know, since Rule281 works upstate NY, that might be a remake of the remnants of the 50 year old NYC unit that worked the Harlem.....? Take a look at this odd assortment of snow clearing stuff - http://www.hazegray.org/rail/snow/other/
I looked at that Yahoo train again. Suddenly had a thought- This could be the way a modern Atlantic Coast Line passenger train would be painted. Boxcab E50
