Howdy, Here's a shot of my F7 with a snow plow I built using .020 styrene. This will eventually be the lead unit for my SP Cow Carrier A-B-B unit...all powered. Easy conversion, lots of photo's on the net. I will add the air lines and a few other bits before painting. I capped the coupler pocket with a cover I've seen on a number of other units. I won't be doing any switching with these and they will all be drawbared together using brass plate stock. Also, for you Z SP Fans. The N scale Micro Scale sheet for the SP Caboose is the right size for boxcars. Also, there are two Loco Style Southern Pacific lettering tracks at the top of the page that is the right size for the F7 and a few others. Cheers Joe
That's a nice plow Joe. It actually looks a lot like the plows that NP had on their 2 FP7's. Good work as usual! I have an ABA set of F7's that I'm doing in Passenger Lowey Green, and on the lead unit I filled in the coupler hole and made a small dummy coupler for it. I am just having trouble getting any of my F7's to run. I have 4 that I converted to DCC, but they are all on the blink right now.
Joe, is this a HERSHEY'S chocolate bar under the F7? Im always eat HERSHEY's when I visit the States. BTW nice plow!
Nice job Joe!! My GN F-units could use those as they also ran that pilot on the F's . Are you going to produce a few more?
Hi All, Been a busy week around the old Salt Mine! Got my ABA units painted and am working on modifying the chassis, touching things up and then start weathering. Thought I would post a "Before" Shot ... before I start messing it up! Cheers Joe MTL
Oh..quick note. The Southern Pacific White Decal came from the header of the N scale Ore Car Sheet from Micro-Scale. It's a just the right size for Z Scale. Joe
Looks awesome Joe. I hate painting, but is the step I am looking forward to because it means my engine is ready to be run in their scheme. The snow plow really helps in making the front look more prototypical. Also, any updates on the Corp modules. I know Loren is waking up in the middle of the night to work on them.
They are going well...at least his! Mine is a lowley 2x3 straight through. I have one spur so far, I haven't had time to really work on anything trying to get my rolling stock and motive power all prettied up for the show this month. We talked about doing some expansions and it looks like once things settle down I will either do Weed or Dunsmuir compressed a bit as a T module. This will give us a point of origin and a place to turn things around. Big project, but once I get through this show I should be able to focus on it. Loren will continue with his elaborate round and round modules that continue to baffle anyone trying to track a loco... ) Understand you guys had some rough weather last night, I know you are down by Naples right?
Joe, make sure to take pictures of the modules in the show. I am sure the modules will look great with two great modellers building them. The bad weather is in central Florida. I am in Pembroke Pines. I am between Ft lauderdale and Miami. My house is about five miles from the Super Bowl this Sunday.
Hey all, Here's a shot of my Hog Hauler just about finished. Need to add new horns and some other small details. I've never been a big fan of the Fseries but this one is growing on me. Again, the decals came from the header of the Micro Scale N Scale SP Ore Car sheet, Floquil paints top to bottom, oils, pastels and some Taco Grease to finish things off. I also traded out the Black Truck side frames for the Grey ones we used on the SP Gp-35 for good measure. I have one more B unit I am working on to go with my GP-9, but this one will be unpowered since it would slow down the newer unit. Anywhoo...time to get on the Live Stock cars. Cheers Joe MTL
nice idea. they look really good. say ... what's the car just behind the second b unit? it looks to have wood extended upper sides like a beet gondola. it might be one of your wood chip cars, but is not pained like the ones you've showed us thus far. anyway, nice F units! dave f.
Looks fantastic Joe! You have the SP weathering down! Please take lots of pictures at the WGH show for us! -Robert
David, are you like me. I look at the pictures background first, and look for little hints from Joe. Joe, I am not a fan of the F units, but after looking at yours, its making me think about getting one. I like the look of ABB units.
Joe, I'm curious if you are doing something different with the unpowered B unit you mentioned that will go with the GP9 to make it more free rolling? Randy
B Unit Not sure yet Randy to be honest. I haven't had the problems expressed on the other thread, but I know in the past there were some problems. The whole system needs to be reworked, but we just don't have the time or resources to much right now. I'll address it this weekend and see what I come up with. Cheers Joe
