    Shot this unit in Detroit MI in January 1993. Was kind of strange to see an EMD unit with a Ford logo on it. :D

    What kind of unit is it? The hood looks to be a little different from most SW types that I recall.

    Seems like the hood is right and the cab is small. Wouldn't that make it an SW1001?

    I was thinking that. But what's throwing me off, is that I thought the hood on an SW1001 went straight back to the cab? And this one looks like it has a small notch just in front of the cab?

    Your guesses are right- it's an SW1001. It's basically an SW1000 with a cab built lower for close clearances in industrial situations. IIRC, the exhaust stack was built shorter for the same reason.

    That is a standard SW1001, standard cab. The only difference that I can see is the addition of the bay window on the side. Here is a comparison pic of an SW1001 on the New York and Atlantic:
