When the Erie and the DL&W merged, that resulting company was named Erie Lackawanna RAILROAD. At some later time, it was re-named Erie Lackawanna RAILWAY. Does anyone have a date? And a reason why?

    Kenny,
I'll check my books, but I seem to recall the "rename of railway" was after N&W pulled out.

Close as I can remember, the name was changed to Railway after 1972 when the EL declared bankruptsey and the N&W pulled out.

It must have happened slightly earlier. Looking through my paperwork collection, I find numerous examples of stationery with dates of 1970 and 1969, which show "Railway."

The EL Railroad became the Erie Lackawanna Railway in 1968 to reflect the N&W Dereco acquisition.
