Rail America Inc. has announced it will operate freight and passenger services on the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway indefinately. CPR has sold its portions of the line to VIRDI which basically allows Rail America to operate the E&N properly, without CPR's restrictions(ie. no soliciting business on CPR's trackage).
I'm sure happy to hear this news. I hope that somehow, old shippers can be recaptured, plus new ones added. And that enough cash will flow to allow adequate upkeep, or even improvements! BoxcabE50
I think their biggest goal right now is getting Norske Canada back, Norske Canada runs the pulp mill in Port Alberni. If they can get Norske Canada back we'd see 30-40 cars a day plus container traffic, we'd also see the Crofton Spur relaid to serve Norske Canada's Crofton Mill.
